Why do you love your job?
In my quest for a new job, I have interacted with so many people who either love or hate their job. I find it interesting that there are very few people who are on middle ground. If you have a job, why do you love or hate your job? What is your position?

Re: Why do you love your job?
I used to love my job because it's very diverse and I have an excuse to surf the web and post on this forum.
But lately I'm hating it 'cus I'm overworked, don't feel appreciated and hardly have time to spend with my DS.
Time to move on!

Re: Why do you love your job?
I don't LOVE my job. I don't necessarily LOVE everyone I work with, either. Do I feel underpaid? Of course, but I think most people feel that way, right?
However, I make it work by loving these aspects:
-trying to laugh a lot at work and make it fun -trying to do as much as I can without killing myself -looking at the positive sides of my job: great benefits, a lot of time off. -being grateful I even have a job at the moment
It's not easy..and I have my bad moments, trust me.

Re: Why do you love your job?
I love it. Absolutely love it. I'm a civil rights attorney for the U.S. Department of Education. We investigate complaints of discrimination in public institutions.
It's challenging work - I really use my brain, and I love it. Very stimulating, and yet, also, very rewarding because I feel I'm directly helping people access a fair and equitable education. It's amazing to me when we come across an egregious case of discrimination and I'm able to "fix" it.
It's also an amazing job ecause it's very family friendly. I work 8 hours a day, not allowed to stay past 6pm. I can work an extra hour or two a day so I can take a day off once a week or once every other week. I get time off for medical appointments, parent-teacher conferences, school trips, etc. And I can work from home 1-2 days a week.
I feel like I have the best of all worlds - I'm an attorney who has the opportunity to make a real impact, but at the same time, I don't have to sacrifice my life to do so.

BXGell...sounds like you truly have the best of both worlds. I come from the world of non-profit and I am soooooo sorry I ever left. Corporate America is so money focused that it forgets to care about the people that work for them.
I can't wait to be able to go back to school or my Masters Degree so I can get back into a career I can afford to be in and also be proud again to discuss what I do for a living!!
How did you get involved with your current job...civil service test?

I'm a teacher, and I can't imagine finding anything more emotionally rewarding than watching kids succeed. I also love being there for them and helping guide them through those crappy teenage years.

No, actually, I was MISERABLE at my firm job, being discriminated against as a woman (long story) and I had a good friend who is a D.A. who gets postings about federal job openings. She saw the posting for the job and immediately thought of me, forwarded it to me and I was able to get all my materials together for the application that day, which was the closing day for the posting.
Because it's an attorney position, the qualifications are based on your legal training, experience and knowledge. All I had to do was submit my application, go through three interviews, and voila, I got the job.
It was HIGHLY competitive though - about 300 applicants for that one job.
USAjobs.com lists all the federal openings in every field, throughout the country, so if you have an interest, you should check it out.
