Babies and sunblock
So my poor little Mallory seems to be allergic to sunblock - She's 4 months now and we were camping at the beach all weekend and I had a hat on her and she was under her cabana, but I was still nervous with her skin so I put sunblock on her and now she has a red bumpy rash wherever I put the sunblock (and it was hypoallergenic baby sunblock). Now I just have to keep her out of the sun completely and I was wondering if any of you know, Is there really a difference between a regular long sleeve shirt and one of those SPF sunblocking shirts? I have to keep her covered but at the same time I don't want her to over heat

Re: Babies and sunblock
I called the Dr. right after she developed the rash and they said just to keep her out of the sun and to keep her in long shirts - yet when I was there just last week they said it was OK to put the sunblock on her if I felt she needed it...

I was going to say this too. The bottle I have says not to use on babies under 6 mos. I also checked with the doc 1st to make sure I choose the right sun block

Re: Babies and sunblock
I read somewhere that colored long sleeve shirts block the UV rays better than a plain white one, which is essentally like not wearing long sleeves. I don't know if the colored shirts work better or worse than those shirts.
HTH!

Re: Babies and sunblock
What kind did you use? She may have an allergy to PABA which is in most sun screens, I just found out my cousin is.
Try checking the label for PABA, and look for PABA free. Waterbabies is PABA free.

Re: Babies and sunblock
I used this stuff from One Step Ahead I guess she was just too young and has sensitive skin like her Mommy. I need to find light long sleeve shirts so she won't overheat...

Re: Babies and sunblock
I bought some cover ups for Jeremy from Onestepahead this weekend. Also I bought a cover up for the pool which has UV protection 45 I think. Hope she feels better and the rash goes away!!
LOL Posted at the SAME TIME!
ETA: I dont think its her age that they say to keep the sunscreen off of them because of sensitivity I think its because when you put sunscreen on them they are too young to be able to regulate their own body temp and the sunscreen makes it even harder for them to cool themselves down...

Re: Babies and sunblock
My baby brother was allergic to any type of waterproof sunscreen. So my mom had to get him sunscreen that wasn't waterproof and put it on him constantly.
I tried the water babies on my daughter and she was fine with it I also got her a tent from babies r us something like this one. Image Attachment(s):
