how much time can you take for pregnancy? the whole 12 weeks?

12 weeks in one year and it is not paid time off
Only firms wih more than 50 workers has to offfer this leave

ooo i know nothing about FMLA. so this is an UNPAID leave? or do you get paid a certain amount? if I save vacation time do i get paid that...then what happens?

FMLA is unpaid leave but you get disability for 6 or 8 wks depending on how you give birth

does everyone qualify for Disability or does it depend on your job? I just met with my HR about FMLA and she didnt mention disability

Some firms pay 100% of salary while on disability, some pay 100% and offer some form of maternity leave.
Others get stuck with nothing but the $170 a week NY states pays for 6/8 weeks

yes, you can get disability from NYS!! I'm getting nothing from my job because even though we have excellent maternity leave, i have not been here a year.
I called NYS Disability (dept of labor) ad the woman said you get 6 weeks for vbirth and 8 for csection. THe max pay you get is $170 per week. (hey it's something!!)
There is a form to fill out and you don't need to send it in until you go out on leave...
For me, I was supposed to get the form through my ins co, bc they handle all leaves. But, I googled it and printed it from the internet. 
It took me a long time to find out I was elligible for that, bc no one from my ins co or HR that I spent days on the phone with thought to mention it to me!!

Wait - Im not sure if Im reading this right - You can get disability in addition to maternity leave given by your company?
NYS disability is only for ppl who do not get paid maternity leave.

diana, if its not to much of a hassle (and when you have time) would you send me a link to the form? My HR is clueless and they would probably never have mentioned it   At least the 170 will (almost) cover my part of insurance while I am on leave
