Coming off the pill?
I am not ttc yet, however I did stop the pill. I am 3 days into the cycle that I am no longer taking birth control for the first time in 12yrs.
Can anyone tell me what to expect or what your experiences were? I am very nervous and ready for my skin to break out and my cycle to be all screwed up...
Thanks!

Re: Coming off the pill?
for me my cycle was normal from the beginning. Pre-pill I was 30 days and that is where it's going back- month 1-28, month 2-29, month 3-30. Hoping I stay at 30!!! But I did have side effects. 1) My skin has been breaking out a lot more. 2) Very heavy periods. 3)I've been more sensitive to smell. 4)This is weird, but I've been hairier LOL!! My body hair is growing in much faster now.

Re: Coming off the pill?
My skin was already bad, but didn't get any worse when I came off the pill. I remember being very hungry all the time though. My first 2 cycles were normal, but after that it went downhill and I've had cycles averaging 40-42 days.

Re: Coming off the pill?
I went off the pill the beginning of Jan. I had a lot of PMS symptoms that I hadnt experienced in 10 years on the pill....cramping, sore nipples, b!tchiness. My body hair seems to be growing in faster too. My first cycle was 49CD. Im hoping this cycle will be alot shorter! Good luck!!

Re: Coming off the pill?
I went off the pill the end of Sept and my first 3 cycles were 28 days exactly. My last cycle was 36 days.
CD1 cramps have been mild-moderate (I never even have a twinge on the pill) - but it's nothing that 2 extra stength tylenol won't cure. The only change I have really noticed was my appetite seemed to incresase dramatically and it's been a struggle to keep it in check.

Re: Coming off the pill?
I went off the pill late December. I finished my pack minus the last three days of active pills. I got my AF 1 week later. (Usually when I was on the pill that would be mostly normal anyway) I got my next AF on time the next month too.
I haven't noticed any acne problems. My boobs KILLED me this month starting two weeks prior to AF. I actually took a HPT thinking it might be a BFP, but it wasn't.
ETA I think I was on the pill for about 10 years.

Re: Coming off the pill?
I am not TTC yet, but I did stop taking my pill about 3 weeks ago after about 10.5 years. If I were still on it, my period would be due today, but it hasn't shown up yet.
I haven't experienced many side effects other than feeling sort of crampy on and off but I think that may be more from the change from regular to pre-natal vitamins than stopping the pill!

Re: Coming off the pill?
I came off BCP after 11 years in September. My cycles were regular from the start (which I did not expect!). I did break out a little and still am However, I just feel happier and healthier not taking them. This was our first month TTC so my fingers are crossed that its an enjoyable and easy process.

Re: Coming off the pill?
I had irregular periods when I went on the pill 10 years ago.. so going off, I had no idea what to expect- Though, I wasn't surprised when I just NEVER got my period!
I ended up going to an RE and it was confirmed I have PCOS. I was given provera to bring on my period and currently going through cycles of meds to try and ovulate
I hope you have an easier transition off the pill then I did!!
Oh, as far as other symptoms- I don't break out more, etc- but the only thing I do really notice is my hair gets very oily in like 2 days When I wash it, I end up washing with shampoo twice because I'm so skeeved!

Re: Coming off the pill?
I went off the pill in May. I was having long cycles (51, 39, 36) and I'm pretty sure I wasn't ovulating until September. Since then I've had 29-31 day cycles, ovulating not until CD20 (so a short LP). My last LP was 11 days (up from 9 and 10 days), so I'm thinking I'm still adjusting if that's possible.
I hope you're cycles are back on track right away!!

Re: Coming off the pill?
I went off in September
My first 3 months were like I was still on the pill. 29,28,30 days Month 4 was 38 days and Month 5 was 36 days. I am not sure how long it will be this month but it looks like i am between 36-38 days right now
I was on the pill for 11 years. They say it takes about 3 months for it to be out of your system. The first 4 months, I had brownish spotting for about 2/3 days before Af actually showed up.

This may sounds like a stupid question but since it does take a few months for the pill to be out of our system are we still Oing for the first few months?

Re: Coming off the pill?
hello everyone! i'm thinking of going off my pill after this month, since my prescription is up. we don't want to actually start TTC until late summer, so this might sound silly, but for those of you first coming off the pill and trying to figure out your cycle and regulate your bodies, what did you do about having sex? Did you not have sex or just use another form of protection in the beginning? I've mentioned this to DH and of course he looked at me like i had 5 heads when I mentioned the word condoms! TIA
also- do you stop taking your regular multi-vitamins altogether when taking prenatals?

Well I came off the pill earlier than I wanted to bc my insurance company was only covering the generic version of my pill and I had some reactions to it. So we were technically not TTC for a few months so we just used condoms. My body was out of whack pre pill so I didnt want to take any chances. Coming off the pill my body was still crazy and my cycles were unpredictable for about 3 months. Now I know my cycle and ive been pretty regular.
I have always taken a multi vitamin, but just this month since we are TTC officially in March, I started taking pre-natal vitamins. My dr gave me some samples which covered me for about a month. I stopped taking my multi vitamin when I started taking my pre natals.

It doesn't take 3 months for the pill to be out of your system. You need to take it every day so the hormones are present - you don't take it one day it's out of your system the next day. Which is also why they tell you to use back-up protection if you skip more than 2 days of pills.
Doctors tell you to wait 2 - 3 cycles so that they have a better chance of correctly dating the pregnancy.
I came off the pill after 8 years. My first cycle was 19 days and then I went right back to my 28 cycle that I had before going on the pill. I also did not break out like I used to, so I was happy about that.

We went off in November because prescription was up, but don't plan on trying till summer. I usually just try to count days, and I plan on temping soon, so we will know the best days to avoid. Also, we do pull and pray a lot And to be honest, we are having less sex, I think DH is avoiding me because he really doesn't want to try till summer Obviously none of these methods are full proof, but even though we plan on waiting till summer, we would be happy if we got pregnant now.

Re: Coming off the pill?
first month was 28 days, light and perfect...after that, it has been all over the place - different length every month, some months are heavy, others are light. It was a good idea to get off early because you may need a few months for your cycle to go back to normal
