I'd have to say The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri.

I love this book. A few years back, when a passage from it appeared on the Regents, I almost died of happiness. (But I'm a nerd.)

Same here!!! Chat Icon Fellow English teacher nerd raising her hand. Chat Icon

This is one of the best books I have ever read

Has anyone read Unaccustomed Earth by the same author? DH got it for me a while ago and I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet. TIA

I did. I've read all of her books. Unaccustomed Earth was INCREDIBLE. I just think she's a phenomenal writer, and I can never put any of her books down. Enjoy it! Chat Icon

Definitely! But I can't pick one

Currently, The girl with the dragon tattoo (and planning to read the sequel, the girl who plays with fire), also more currently, Push by Sapphire

From when I was younger, The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe (CS Lewis), Animal Farm (George Orwell), Flowers in the Attic (VC Andrews)

Also recently read A Wolf at the table which I LOVED

oh, and one of my favorites is the Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Night-Elie Wiesel

I love thsi book too. I saw him speak in college and it was amazing.

My sister has a great story about him though, she went to BU and I believe he taught a few classes there. She called him for a quote (she was a reporter), but didn't expect him to call her back. When he did, she was thrilled and thanked him profusely and she said he said "You call me, I call you back" and she was floored by thatChat Icon
