BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
i went to toys r us this weekend with my neice and nephew. went over to the baby section to look at their strollers. i am going to get a travel system. i think that would make sense and i see ladies talking about it on here. but OMG, the car seat portion is sooo heavy! i can't imagine carrying it with a baby in it, empty it was heavy!! the brand that i felt was heavy way Graco, then i saw Evenflo and that seemed lighter. what brand is good AND lightweight.
this is my first child, my mom and mother-in-law are both deceased and none of my friends have babies,,,,boy....am i lost on all this baby stuff!!!

We have the chicco travel system, and never had a problem with it when the baby was in it.

Re: BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
I think the bulk and weight of travel systems is one of the big cons.
I just used the Snap & Go with the infant carseat until DS was about 6 months, and then I got a lightweight stroller (Maclaren).
Is there a reason you chose a travel system?

no reason, i really don't know much about strollers actually it looks easy, just put the baby in the carseat, put him in the car and then right on top of the stroller.. if there is somthing easier please share a link also so i can see it. i

Re: BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
I would definitely recommend looking at a Snap & Go. It is a stroller frame specifically for infant car seats.
It's super light, has a big, easily accessible basket, and folds up easily. you just plop your infant carseat in it (so no need to to wake baby when transferring him) and it becomes your "stroller".
I think they run about $50.
Then once your infant outgrows it, you can go to a lightweight stroller.
You should get the book Baby Bargains. It does a great job of explaining the different types of strollers in the market, rates them, and gives cost analysis.
Good luck!! I remember stroller shopping being very overwhelming as well.

I agree with this.
Travel system strollers are HEAVY. You need to be lifting this stroller in & out of the car. Some are in the 20-30 lb range.
I got the snap & go and have used it for 6 months. I'm going to get a macclaren now.
I think the snap & go is a great way to go until you figure out what you want in a stroller once you have the baby.

That's what I did. I waited till DS outgrew the Snap & Go to get my next stroller. At that point I knew features I liked and didn't like in a stroller.
Unless of course, you want to register for the next stroller for your shower!

Re: BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
We did not register for the travel system due to the bulky/heavy reviews I kept reading about
We registered for an infant car seat - Graco Snugride 32 with the coordinating snap and go stroller
Then we also registered for the convertible car seat (when they grow out of the infant car seat) - Britax and a lightweight stroller - City Mini Jogger.
They were all lightweight and got great write ups in the Baby Bargains book
I would definitely pick up the book Baby Bargains - I knew nothing and didn't really have anyone to turn to for help either and this book was AMAZING! It really helped straighten everything out and recommend some great products. Definitely worth every penny!!!

We have the Chicco Cortina travel system and we LOVE it!
The infant carriers are generally kind of on the heavy side - but you manage!
The stroller is SO easy to fold and unfold... we don't even have a snap n' go.

Re: BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
With my DD I got the Graco Metrolite travel system. I really liked it and it was very lightweight (I'm super weak!)
If I had to do it over again I probably would have just gotten the Snap and Go because once my DD outgrew the infant seat I started using a different stroller anyway.

Re: BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
My biggest regret of all the baby purchases was getting that stupid travel system.
We used the Graco Snugrider (same as a Snap and Go) for the first 8 months.
We had #2 when #1 was 17 months old, so we rarely used the stroller part of the travel system as we had to get a double stroller.

Re: BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
i agree with the PP...i hate the travel system stroller. they tried to make it good for so much but it isn't good at anything! i love my chicco carseat though. yes, they are heavy but you will be very happy when you have to take a sleeping baby inside in it or you want to keep LO warm while going between car and buildings. If I could do it again, I would get a snap and go, a jogger, and a lightweight.

This is what we had as well. I actually got a travel system for my shower, but the stroller portion was way bulky and heavy. The snap and go was AWESOME and once DD was sitting up we bought a lightweight stroller.
As for the original question. I think the car seat is about 10-15 lbs. I didn't have a problem with the weight of it plus the baby until she was a little heavier (prob around 4-5 months). But at that point she was more sturdy and I just carried her in and out of the house and left the car seat in the car all the time. We have a Graco one.

Re: BTDT moms or someone who knows about strollers!!
I have a travel system. Yes, it was definitely heavy ESPECIALLY with my chubba DD in it but I loved it.
I still miss it when we come home from wherever and she's asleep in the car. I hate that 9 times out of 10 she's going to wake up as I take her out of her car seat.
I did use the snap n go for the entire time she was in the infant carrier and I only purchased a lightweight stroller when she outgrew it, but now that she's 2 we've actually gone back to the big stroller. I can't shop with my Maclaren because it falls over as soon as she gets up if I have anything hanging on the handles and she actually likes the Graco stroller better. She tells me "no this one!" when I put her in the stroller in the morning for day care.

This is exactly what I am going to do. Snap and go then Maclarean- it got great reviews for a light weight stroller... I can't see myself lugging around a big travel system and dealing with all that.
