veneers?

so i need to get my front tooth capped with a veneer...now the dentist is trying to get me to do both front teeth. I only need to do the one - the other tooth is fine.

They said if I do the one that it will not be an exact match to the other one (but it never was because i always had bonding on the one) and although it would be nice to have them both done I fear that I will be ruining a perfectly healthy tooth but at the same time i dont want it to look weird only getting the one done.

does anyone have just one front tooth capped with a veneer.

Any suggestions what i should do???

TIA

Re: veneers?

my veneer did not ruin the natural tooth underneath. It took a little to get used to, but it looks so much better than when I had mismatched teeth (top 2 in the front also).

Re: veneers?

thanks...i am so torn about what to do...don't they have to shave down the tooth before putting it on?

Re: veneers?

I have a veneer on one of my teeth next to the middle two...I think it looks fine, but not sure how it would look if it was one of the middle two...and yes they do shave the tooth down...I needed the veneer b/c that tooth was much smaller than the rest(like a baby tooth) and they still shaved it a little...why don't you just do one and then if it doesn't look right do the other?

I don't know if the same thing but IM in the middle of getting a bridge done and they had to shave down my front teeth to make it fit.

Re: veneers?

My dentist wants to veneer both my front teeth so they match. I have bonding on one because I broke the tooth years ago.

I might go ahead and do it, but I'm just worried because I do on occasion grind my front teeth.

Re: veneers?

I have 6 teeth veneered. I would do it. I am thrilled with the veneers. They are expensive though. I had mine done close to 20 years ago and still going strong. Now they are about $1K a tooth.

Re: veneers?

I had veneers done on 6 teeth to keep some sort of uniformity to my smile.
I agree with your dentist. Because of where you're putting the veneer you will likely want to consider making the front two teeth look the same.

Yup that is exactly what it is. My insurance will covers almost half of the one since it is needed but the other one is full price Chat Icon

If it was any other tooth I would forget about it but it's your front tooth. I say do it if you can swing it.

Maybe you can make payment arrangements with your dentist to make it easier to afford?

that's right, you have to get them done at the same time or the coloring won't match.

I had a bad front tooth and got my front 4 teeth veneered. The other teeth were fine but would have looked very different from the veneer. I would get the front 2 done- the veneer tooth is going to be perfect so unless your other front tooth is perfect as well it won't match. Plus, the non-veneer one will change color over time whereas the veneer will not.

Thanks everyone! I think i am going to do both. I am nervous that it is going to look weird if I do the one. Plus my whole life I have been self conscious of this one tooth because it was always looked different from my other tooth - so it will be nice not to have that anymore.

I am just so nervous...my appointment is at 3:30 today!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

you will love it. Don't be afraid to speak up about how it looks. It can be tweaked a bit to be perfect!
