Scrapbooking-Where do I begin?
I really want to scrapbook my daughter's first year. I have a scissor set and 2 scrapbooks but I don' know where to start. I bought an Encylopedia of Scrapbooking yesterday. Is that a good place to start?

I'm in the same boat....I got 3 KITS for Christmas and NO CLUE where to find the time or where to start.
Lisa is a BIG help and a VERY knowledgable scrapbooker.

Re: Scrapbooking-Where do I begin?
Lisa is definitely a great source - I've seen her work so I firmly stand behind that.
In the meanwhile... would suggest:
Do some searches on scrapbooking to become familiar with what it is and what supplies are out there. There are several great sites that have chat areas where people can help you along as well. My two favorites are:
Lifetime Moments
Scrapbook.com
Both sites also sell supplies.
The most important thing to keep in mind...we try to use products that are safe for the pictures and will help in the preservation of these pictures. So you'll hear a lot of "acid-free" and such - this is important but most scrapbook items meet these requirements.
It's an addicting hobby and very enjoyable. I for one find it completely relaxing and I tend to get lost in it.
Basics that you need: Album - various sizes and everyone has their own preference. I like 12x12 for my annual books but 8x8 for special theme books - like my honeymoon. I did the wedding in 12x12.
Paper - this is my weakness. There are a variety of designs - each one better than the next. But it's great because if you are making a Halloween layout - you can get halloween decorated paper.
Cardstock - a great great great thing - I used them for my photo mats (I cut them to be a little bigger than the picture and mount the picture on top - give a great colored backround to the pic)
Adhesive - an absolute necessity and you must get one that is acid free. Again - huge variety and we all have our preferences. I love photo mounts - little square double sided tape that I use on my pics. To adhere one piece of paper onto another I like the Zig 2 way glue.
Embellishments - this is where I go broke. There are a ton of different things that you can use as accents to your pages - stickers, metal rimmed tags, ribbon - it's endless and a trip down any scrapbook aisle will better explain what's out there.
I would suggest that you checkout the gallery feature on the sites I listed above to see other people's work - that's what I did when I first got into scrapbooking. I am a very visual person and need to see something - stare really - in order to get it.
Let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to help!!!

What comes in the kits? Do you know where they came from. This book I bought isn't much help. What a waste of $25.
