Does your supervisor have a right to
ask why you need a day off, or a personal day or a vacation day...
Just curious what your thought are on this...

Nope.. they cannot ask you why. If you have the time it's your time to take. They can say no...but cannot ask you why you need it.

This is exactly what I thought. I did not know they could say no, though. I thought you could use your time as you needed. I am a supervisor, and never aska ny of my employees why they need it, and I have never not approved it.
I had a vacation day yesterday for a dr's appt for surgery I need, and my supervisor..(not in my bldg, or town for that matter) asked me why I took the day. I was a little .

You can say no due to schedule conflicts. If you have more than one person out and you need coverage you can say no.
But dont have the right to ask you why.

the only time i think a supervisor has a right to ask why is if you are in a busy season and he/she is relying on your presence
