Re: silly question...certification
you have to teach for 3 years, finish your masters and then pay a 50.00 application fee to the state.
You also have to do your video and have all the tests passed.
This is the old certification. Most people that finish now have initial to professional

Re: silly question...certification
There is no more Permanent Certification. There is only Professional. After 3 years you apply and pay 100.00 fee to the state.
Make sure you have an account on the NYS D of E website in the TEACH prortal.
Good Luck. I am still waiting for mine!

You can apply for an extension.
Do you have provisional certification?

Re: silly question...certification
You will only be able to get initial and professional. Provisional and Permanent are not an option for you.

Re: silly question...certification
I graduated in Dec with my masters in educ. I have an initial. I need to teach I believe for 3 years and have a certain amount of hours then I can apply for my professional. Since you wont graduate for another year you will have the option I have....Initial to Professional.
I am nervous too. Have been out of school since December and no teaching jobs yet. Went on some interviews for leave replacements as a per diem sub but were not in my certification areas so I did not get the job- about 15 ppl interviewed I figured someone else with the cert. would get it. It is discouraging especially with the job cuts but hang in there I am!!! :) Good Luck
