Siding and asbestos shingles
We are going to be pricing out roofing and siding costs this spring. The big problem is we know our current shingles are asbestos. Could they possibly go over them or do they have to be removed. Anyone deal with this? Do you know how much extra it might cost?

Re: Siding and asbestos shingles
Most shingles on the outside of houses built before 1985 has a mixture of cement and asbestos. About 30% asbestos. If it is removed correctly, depending on the size of your home it can cost an additional 5,000. Most homeowners leave it on and put siding over. It is all on the outside of the house and will be covered and asbestos is only dangerous when broken into small fibers and gets in the air. It is a personal decision.
