Cat throwing up
Is this a hairball?
My cat occasionally - maybe 4 times in the last 6 months or so throws up his food. It is usually soon after eating and it is all food, no hair or anything.
It usually looks just like the way the food went in, not digested at all.
is this a hairball or just an upset tummy? should I be worried or is this normal? Like I said, it happens really infrequently, so I haven't really been worried, just want to make sure its normal.

Re: Cat throwing up
It is so true. If it was a hairball you would see it in the puke. A lot of times my cat will just eat fast if I feed him late and then throw it up. 4 times in the past 6 months really is not a lot. I think my cat puked 3 times last week

Yes they sometimes eat too fast and their stomach can't handle it.

Re: Cat throwing up
I just wish my cats would puke on things that rent - like the wood floors over things that I own - like area rugs

Re: Cat throwing up
stubby gets hiccups after eating too fast. Since we have her on a diet its been worse because when we give her food its a tiny amount three times a day and she feels we are starving her.

Re: Cat throwing up
Thanks so much!
Now I feel bad because DH was saying its because he sometimes runs around a lot after eating - he goes into crazy mode for a few mins each morning running sprints around the apartment. I made fun of DH, saying he's a cat, not a human, but maybe this could be part of the reason too?!
My little guy is very curteous, he always pukes on the tile or hardwood floor so easy cleanup. Never on rug, bed, couch, etc.

my cat pukes all the time. If its a hairball it usually looks like a nasty ball of hair. Once I saw my cat eating his own puke

Once I saw my cat eating his own puke
if my male pukes- my girl runs over and tries to eat it
once maggie ate a flip flop- I didn't find all the puke
and then she ate the flip flop piece out of the puke and puked again

Re: Cat throwing up
my cat used to puke undigested food once per week. always on the carpet or area rugs....never on my tile or hw lol! then i did some research and switched him over to innova evo dry food....no more puke! just make sure to make any diet changes gradually so their tummies adjust. the food is a bit more expensive than regular dry good, but it's more than worth it b/c i know it's much better for him AND i'm not cleaning up puke every week.

Re: Cat throwing up
I give my cats "Hairball Remedy Lick Stick"
"Eliminate hairballs without the mess. Hairball LickStick eliminates and prevents hairballs without mess or fuss. Let your cat lick directly from the stick, apply it to her front paws or let her lick it from your finger. Natural malt flavor remedy helps to quickly eliminate hairballs with regular use. Safe for use with cats and kittens age 6 weeks and older."
It seems to do the trick, I only give it to them maybe once a week.

yes, we notice it more if we feed her past her normal eating time. she is probably hungry and eats faster. if its late, we will feed her half the normal amount and wait an hour or so and then give her the rest. never pukes when we do it that way

Re: Cat throwing up
Mine does this as well. I have a vet friend who suggested I try an all organic/hypoallergenic food. So I got a food that has like 4 ingredients and the food throw up has decreased A LOT! She said that cats can become allergic to their food so simpler/hypoallergenic food is helpful.
Good luck
