Little Shelter ?

Anyone have experience adopting from Little Shelter ?
I'm thinking about adopting one or two young cats and was wondering how the process is at Little Shelter, and what the health of the animals is like.
NSAL is closer to me, but I have heard mixed things about them.

TIA !

I adopted 2 pit mixes from Little Shelter. They were amazing. The staff was great and heloful. Having adopted from NSAL before, i definately prefer Little Shleter over NSAL. I feel they care much better for there animals. The health of my dogs were great. But you never know. Germs harbor for 2 weeks so you can wind up with a sick Cat. The only problem i had was that i do not like the vet they use in Babylon. So i took them for the free visit and spay/neuters and went immediatley to my own vet. I highly reccommend little shelter. Good luck!

Re: Little Shelter ?

Thank you for the info. I've never adopted from a shelter before, my Munchkin actually adopted me when he was a kitten and wandered into my yard. He was born to one of my ferals.
I live in Bayside, so I'll keep my old vet. They were great to my cat throughout his life.

Re: Little Shelter ?

I adopted a cat from Little Shelter last year. I have also adopted from NSAL in the past. LS is very different experience.

You enter the 'cat house' and there are cats everywhere! None of them are in cages (unless they have health issues). Then there is a separate area for kittens and another room for young adoptable cats. The woman who helped me suggested I just sit on the floor and see who comes to me. You really get to see their peronalities this way.

After you fill out an adoption form they will take a couple days to call all your references and your vet (I hated the waiting, but they were thorough). In my experience NS made a couple calls while I waited and let me take home the cat the same day. I felt like NS had more kittens, but that could just depend on the time of year I was at each place.

I had great experiences with both places, but I think I liked the 'meeting process' at LS better.

Good luck!
