Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

- if DH works, have him take a day or two off so he can spend time with you, my unsuccessful induction ended up taking 1.5 days and it was great having DH there to keep me company

- try to get them to not hook you up so you can't use the restroom

- bring some lifesavers since you'll probably be thirsty

- bring some magazines or have them turn on the tv

- get them to do an ultrasound if the induction isn't going anywhere, i had an induction that led to a CS 'cus my baby had the umb. cord wrapped around his neck and the doctors didn't know about this until after the CS. :P

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I was induced with cervedil at midnight on a Thursday. It takes 12 hours, so they check you, but you basically hang out. I sent my DH home (we have a dog, and it was the middle of the night).

My parents and DH came back in the mid-morning. I was checked around 12-1pm and I wasn't dilated anymore, but they decided to go to Pitocin.

At that point, I was given a demoral cocktail that basically knocked me out for the rest of my labor. My DH got me the epidural and they woke me up to push, my DS was born at 9:59pm on Thursday.

I will say that I had preeclampsia, so I had to be hooked up to monitors the whole time.

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I was induced BOTH times with my daughters. NEVER had cervadil though. I was already dilated and effaced so I didnt need it.
I had poticin both times and an epi both times.
I went in early in the morning had an IV put in... waited for Dr- broke my H2O waited some more... needed epi- hurt a bit.. waited some more.. started pushing 3 hrs later with DD #1, DD#2- 3 pushes and they were born.

Both experiences were pleasant-DD31 was much longer which it usually is. I LOVE Huntington Hospital!!

Brianna #1 9lbs 6oz
Kaitlyn #2 8lbs 6oz

Good luck you'll be great. They let me have ice chips the entire time and after the Epi you cant get up and they put a catheter in your bladder at that point. And I just watched TV-slept a bit too.

this was pretty much my experience. i was on pitocin, no cervadil. i started labor on my own early of the morning of my induction. I was already 3cm when i got to the hospital. I was hooked to the IV, and after about8 hrs of laboring on my own, i got an EPI. the best thing in the world..LOL.

bring things to do to pass the time b/c you will be in bed once they hook you to the IV and most likely a catheter.

our hospital had little cans of gingerale which was great. See if they have that..if not, bring some.

other than that, its just hanging around and waiting .

good luck!!

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

i had preeclampsia so i was hooked to monitors. i was induced at 12am Friday night (saturday morning) with ceradivl. I had 2 rounds of it because I never dilated. at 4am sunday morning we decided on a c-section since i was not progressing at all. 8:32am DS was born. 32 hours later!

the most you can do is watch tv, read a book, and TRY to sleep! dont forget ur phone charger. i was on facebook every 2 seconds and my phone almost died. Chat Icon

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I had cervadil and a Foley cathetar inserted to induce me. I was at 1cm and they wanted to get me moving, as I have chronic high-blood pressure and was a week over my due date.

They put it in the eveningn before and shecked me at 12pm. I had dilated to 4cm and they started me on Pitocin. Whne they checked again I was still 4cm and the babies head still high. So they ended up having to do a c-section.

Take life-savers or any hard candy to get you through it. Ice chips are a life-saver as well.

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I brought a pillow from home...it was nice to have.
Just bring everything you planned to bring. Comfy pants, tanks, nursing bras. They give you pads and I used the disposable underwear they gave. Bring magazines/books, ipod to pass the time. I was induced with cervadil at 1am..by 3am it had to be removed because DD's heart rate was irregular.
By noon, I had only gotten to 4 cm with pitocin and DD's heartrate keep dropping drastically. I ended up with a C Section. Not to scare you, just to prepare you. I've heard that the Cervadil does cause the baby's heartbeat to drop in alot of cases.

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I was rushed to the hospital on my due date because I had no fluid left.

At around 9PM they started cervadil. It is in for 12 hours. I could not eat or drink anything, though they gave me ice chips. That was a boring 12 hours. I sent DH home to get some sleep and tried to read magazines, but mostly was just nervous. After the cervadil they started pitocin. I was on that for something like 18 hours. I had an epidural, pushed for 5 hours, and had DS vaginally though he needed to be vacuumed out b/c he was stuck.

They gave me demerol before the epi and it made me hallucinate BAD!

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I was one centimeter to begin with - they gave me cervadil at 2am and it is for 12 hours - you can't get up for that period so make sure you have a book, music, comfy pj's, etc. They can do up to 3 rounds of cervadil. After one round nothing happened i didn't feel anything either. They did a second round and i felt a little cramping - I made it to 3cm :) Then when the doctor came in that morning I got pitocin around 930. Dr. checked me and said we should have a baby by 2pm. Seamus was born at 2:51!

Good Luck don't be nervous just bring something to occupy your time

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I was induced because I was overdue. I was already 1.5 cm dilated and 50% effaced so no cervidil for me, just pitocin. DD was sunny side up so although the contractions were actually not that bad, I got an epi very early because of horrendous back labor. Once I got the epi, I was able to relax, sleep, and watched TV. In the evening, I was at 10 and ready to go, but DD was still sunny side up. I still had my epi thankfully and could feel enough to push though I felt no pain. Had to take a break from pushing due to DD's heartrate and to help her move down some more and then went back to it. Including the break, pushing was about 2 hours and my OB needed to use a vacuum to get her out because of her position. In total, it was about 14 hours and nowhere near as bad as what I had imagined. Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

I was induced. Came into the hospital 3 cm. Got the Cervidal at 5pm on Sunday evening--cramping came immediately and I was in pain. Dialated a half cm come 5am that morning. Got the Pitocin and everytime the contractions got goodChat Icon Ethan's heartrate would drop and they would inject me with something to stop the contractionsChat Icon

I lived this nightmare for 31 hours. no dialation increase, bc everytime my body went to for it, babe's heartrate dropped. I ended up having a CS--still 3cm dialated Tuesday morning.

I found the Cervidal painful as I approached my 12th hour.

Good luck! My story is very rare--you will be fine!

Re: what to expect when youre being induced-

the cervadil hurt like a mothereffferrrr to put in and take out. i wasn't prepared for that.

They put the cervadil in about midnight and took it out about 7-I was still only 1 cm but then started the pitocin about 10 and and i literally took over 1 hour per cm. by 7 pm I was finally 7 cm and the dr told me it would be about 2 am before I delivered. I too had horrible back labor so I got my epi a little after they broke my water. by 720 I was 10 cm and pushed for 9 minutes and only about 6 pushes and dd was born. woo hoo lol

make sure your dh goes home for the night after they put the cervadil in. He's not going to sleep much and theres nowhere for him to sleep bc you aren't in a L&D room yet, just a regular hospital room. That's the one thing I wish someone told us when I was induced. DH went home the next morning to sleep a little then came back after they started the pitocin.

bring lots of things to keep you busy. who knows if you will use them or not but better safe than sorry.

Good Luck!!!
