newsday ads
Are the ads for "puppies for sale" from legitimate or approved breeders? I have been looking in the shelters to adopt a pet, but so far, no luck. Didn't know if it was ethical to purchase from these ads...

My guess is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I don't trust those ad's.

I wasn't sure, because they are local phone numbers (516, 631..) Maybe their pets had puppies?

You can always go to the AKC WEBSITE and look under breeders. Also, go to the bookstore and look in the back of breed magazines, they have breeder listings.
Unfortunatley, speaking from experiance I found that most of the numbers listed in Newsday are either backyard breeders or pet stores.
Also, if you are interested in a particular breed do a search on the web and you will find a bunch of rescue groups. Good luck- I know its difficult!

That is how I got Casey - I did some research on the woman before we went there and she showed me all the papers that I needed to see before I purchased Casey

We bought our boston terrier from a breeder in newsday. She was great and treated the puppies and parents really well.
