Cover of Newsday

Had a picture of that little girl in her coffin at her wake...

I just think that is disgusting and in utterly poor taste of Newsday to print, regardless of whether the family allowed it or not

I agree...poor taste. Not as bad as the Post. I still hate the Post for publishing pictures of Eric Clapton's 4 year old son after falling 53 stories.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Cover of Newsday

I may be in the minority here but THE STORY of this poor little girl affected me the most. I can't believe that this girl was consistently missing from school, had black eyes and what none of her neighbors or teachers was willing to step out of their comfort zones to help her. I am absolutely disgusted at the thought of this idiot monster of a mother who held her little girl and watched her pass out with BLOOD ALL OVER THE BACK OF HER HEAD as she said "don't leave me Mommy" and proceeded to leave her in her room where she died all alone for eating a YOGURT!!!! And what is the excuse for this disgusting piece of trash to stay with this man that beat her children over the years, "because I love him" Screw you lady! As you can see I am very fired up over this and am sick of hearing of all these babies being killed and abused by the people who are supposed to protect them and/or their love interests. I say good it was on the front page of the Newsday. Maybe people will wake up and start protecting our youngest citizens! Fire away if you must!

It's a disgusting story and the mother deserves to fry.

DA Hynes made a statement on the news before and stated that the mother CLAIMS that she didn't know how bad the abuse was, which is ********. She's the mother; she should know even if it's not apparent, which this HAD to be. He also says that the school did its job- the kid was so seldom in school and everything was reported to ACS. Having contributed to reports for ACS myself (and having nothing done) I hope that something is changed in that organization. While there is certainly incompetence and mismanagement, I also believe that those caseworkers probably have huge loads and maybe more than one person can deal with.

I'm less shocked about the picture in the coffin- papers will print anything these days. I've also had a couple students show me pictures of loved ones in caskets. Maybe in other cultures it's an acceptable practice.

I used to work in a photo lab and would get pictures of loved ones in caskets all of the time. I've also had the unfortunate task of taking photos for my SIL of my nephew who was born stillborn. (She asked for them because they are the only ones she has.). Having a picture of your loved ones is your own personal preference.

Printing it front page in a newspaper so I have to explain to a 4 year old what happened to that little girl is unacceptable. At least put it inside the cover so I can decide what I want my kid to see while in the supermarket.

Re: Cover of Newsday

I have pictures of my grandfather in his casket. It was something my grandmother wanted someone to have - not to look at. They are kept away with his other personal belongings that I cherish.

However, they were not prominently displayed on the front page of a newspaper or handed out to family members.

The cover of the Suffolk edition of the paper didnt have her on the cover but the pics are on their website.

The family asked them to come and take the pictures.

Re: Cover of Newsday

In the article, it said the family opened the doors and invited the press in, so the world could see what was done to this poor little girl.

Does it disgust us? Yes.

Does it makes us think? I hope so.

Will it help prevent more abuse, encouraging either family, neighbors, or school admin. stepping in instead of being afraid to take a stand? I sure as he l l hpe so.

Then, it would be worth it.

The cover of my paper didn't have it. It had a huge pic on Eva Longoria on one side, and Hillary Clinton on the other side. I am glad I did not see it.
