Expanding on the portfolio...
Does everyone have one? I was hired at my school after doing a leave 3 years ago and never needed one. I started it in grad an never finished it.
Given the state of the budget, I may not have a job soon! So my question is...what should I gather this year to put in it? Should I have been adding to it the last three years?

I don't have one and honestly I don't think one is needed.
When I first graduated and was job searching I had one, and a few people looked.
However, from my experience most interviews I have ever been on, don't ask for it. And when they do look at it, they just glance.

I needed one to graduate grad school it was used as our dissertation. I've brought it to interviews (only been on 3 in my life) and basically forced the principals to look at it.
