I really don't feel like pulling everything together. At all.

i definitely would...

but in my experience when i was interviewing (about 5-6 years ago), I brought and not once did they ask to look at it. they just went off my resume and cover letter.

If its an initial interview, then I would bring it, but they will probably not ask for it. All my initial interviews also went off the cover letter and resume.
If it is a second interview, definitely bring it.

I guess it's a good thing to have with you, but I was never asked for to show it during an interview.

Re: Do I have to bring a portfolio to my interview?

I went on a TON of interviews...twice it was asked for.

Once was for the job I have now, when I met the Supt. he asked for it, and then had me go through it to find something I was really proud of. It was funny because I was going through it, trying desparately to decide what to show him quickly, and then I was like "ummm can I show you something NOT in my portfolio? I always carry around a MASSIVE binder of a literature unit plan, and I showed that to him, instead of my portfoliio, which worked out really good, because he loved it. So someone finally asked for it after all the work I put into my porfolio, and I ended up not even really showing itChat Icon Chat Icon

I always brought it, but I was asked for it exactly twice. It's a good thing to have IMO.

I brought it but wasn't asked about it. I had a lot of good stuff in there (and didn't know any better at the time!) and whipped it out anyway to show off some kids' projects!

Are you interviewing???? I hope it's by choice. Chat Icon

I was never asked for it either, but would show it. Often it promoted more casual conversation so the interview panel could get to know me on another level. In this job market I would put together a good portfolio to bring with you that could make you stand out against other candidates.
