Professional Cert. Question
Hi,
My initial certification is expiring in a few months, and in 5 years, I've yet to find a job. I've been subbing in that 5 years, does that count? Or do I need to apply for an extension? The teach website was not very informative, and they wouldn't answer the phone when I tried to call either. Anyone know who else I can ask what I need to do? Thanks all!

I'm sorry, I can't offer direct help but I can commiserate.
I did work for 1.5 years as a leave replacement and two summer school sessions but I know short of a miracle I will not have the required three years of teaching when my initial expires.
The market is so bad I wonder if they will bend the rule eventually.
I am not 100% but I do not believe subbing counts. It has to be full time teaching.
So, I am curious about the answer to this too. If you think of it, please let me know when you find out and I'll do the same.

Thanks Jenn,
Now I am wondering, even if I do get the professional cert., how would I ever rack up 175 prof development hours if I am not employed full time? I don't want to let my certification lapse, but what am I supposed to do? This is so frustrating!

I actually just called the state on this the other day.
You can request an extension online though the teach server.
In order to get professional certificate you need 3 years of f/t teaching.
After that you need the hours.

I don't know the specifics of non FT hours, but as for the bypassing the state, ask your district to find out.
Even if you are per diem, the business office should be able to help you. They usually can get through to the state right away. or they may have the answer without calling.
