Re: prenatals?
My doctor recommended that I take them. I was already taking a multi vitamin every day but she said taking prenatals while TTC were better than multi vitamins

Re: prenatals?
I've been taking the One A Day Prenatals (my doctor's rec) since Jan and we are on month 2 of TTC.
He said it's good if you can try to have the vitamins in your system even before TTC.

Re: prenatals?
i was prescribed them when I was pregnant. After the MC I stopped taking them for a bit. When I told the dr I stopped taking them... he told me to start again because they are good for TTC as well.
So I take them.

Re: prenatals?
i was told it could take up to 6 months for them to get fully in your system - so i would def start taking them now if your TTC

Re: prenatals?
Which ones would you recommend? I bought a bottle of Rainbow Light Just 1 - and noticed that Vitamin A is in the form of Beta Carotene and Palmitate in a 1:1 ratio.. and palmitate is synthetic and in high doses is not good!!
Am I just looking way tooo much into it?

Re: prenatals?
I have been considering starting to take them, even though we are not actively TTC. Is there like a timeframe that you should take these for? Like is it ok to be taking them for a year-year and a half without really TTC? I would think it would be fine because it's just vitamins, and I need vitamins anyways, right?

Re: prenatals?
I started taking them last month and I will start TTC within the next 2-3 months. I am SO anxious to start my family so at least this makes me feel like I am taking steps to make it happen since I can't really try right now.

Re: prenatals?
Yes, you need to take them a few months before. You need folic acid. (I think 800 mg/day) It's good to take a multi-vitamin anyway so it can't hurt to take the pre-natals.
We aren't TTC yet either and wont be for several montha, so my Dr. said to finish out the rainbow light ones then switch to presc. If I get pregnant I will need to take the presc.
I don't know why the prescription ones are so much better, but all Drs make you take them.

Re: prenatals?
We are also not actively trying but I do take OTC rainbow light prenatals. My dr. gave me a prescription and told me to start them 3 months before we want to start actively trying. She stressed the importance of taking 800mg or higher of folic acid, as well as a DHA supplement. HTH

Re: prenatals?
It's good to take a multivitamin every day, so why not one with a little more Folic Acid (ie, a prenatal)? It's the same price and certainly couldn't hurt.
Any one with 800 mcg of Folic Acid is supposed to be fine. I take ones from Target.
