VENT
I am so annoyed right now and I have to vent about my appointments I had this morning. First I had a midwife appointment. The nurse comes out to get me and asks if I had my 2nd glucose test and CBC yet. I said, no, I wasn't aware I was supposed to have this, no one ever mentioned this to me, and no one ever gave me a prescription. I had the first test done at 24 weeks and I am 28 weeks now. I was at the office at 26 weeks and got my passing results and that was it. So I go into the exam room. I am up 34 lbs at 28 weeks and my blood pressure is 100/58. For the second appointment in a row, the brand new midwife comes in who I specifically did not make an appointment with. She explains that since I am "such a high risk for gestational diabetes" that I have to repeat the 1 hour test. Why am I high risk I ask? I have no signs or symptoms. My blood pressure is normal/low. I am not overweight. There is no history in my family. I did not have this first pregnancy. I am under 30. etc etc etc. She says - since I have gained wayyyy too much weight this and last pregnancy and have had a 9 lb baby 1st pregnancy. Which is why I am following up with a nutritionist right after this appointment. Then she starts saying how it feels like both babies are head down... good now you can have a VBAC. I told her, like I said to you already LAST appointment I met with the high risk dr. who strongly advised against me going for a VBAC, she says he didn't write his reasons in my chart so they are going to push me for VBAC. I say yes I did want a VBAC but now that its twins and after meeting with the high risk dr, it is riskier for me to attempt a VBAC than have a c-section. she says "well I think you can go for it...." Then why did I bother seeing the "expert" in the office if they are not going to listed to his advice. Then I meet with the nutritionist.. GET THIS... she says I am meeting with her because I HAVE NOT GAINED ENOUGH WEIGHT meanwhile all pregnancy (and last one too) I am lectured on how I gain too much, at risk for GD because of it, etc... and she says no, I am a little underweight and i have to be eating more. I pretty much say I am confused why everyone is telling me something different and that I am going to be eating same as I have been. I am not making any changes nor am I worried about my weight being too high or too low. What a waste of a morning.

Re: VENT
I can't even find words with this, I'm actually pisssed FOR you!
I can't believe she would be pushing for a VBAC when a high risk doctor said it's not in your best interest, is she kidding with that?
And I've seen your pictures, and you look FANTASTIC!!! keep up with whatever it is your doing, because really you look gorgeous and since apparently nobody is on the same page there, I wouldn't be taking anyone's advice about your weight!

Re: VENT
I totally hear your frustration. I am being treated with kid gloves at my doc too...I guess just because of the twins? I did have to do the 3 hour glucose test and had one section that was too high. I have known other people who had the same numbers with singleton pregnancies and no one thought twice about it. BUT, I was told to get my blood sugar checked each time I go (because I said I didn't want to do it myself everyday when I don't have GD) and I have to be on a low glucose diet. I have gained about 28lbs at 28wks, so I am right around where you are and they never mentioned anything about my weight. My blood pressure is also low.
I think you are doing great and shouldn't let them stress you out. Maybe you can request a different midwife for your next appt? That way you can get an opinion from someone else... Also, I am sure the nutritionist knows more about where you should be weight wise, so I would go with her suggestions. Your main goal is to keep those babies growing and healthy, so keep it up!

Re: VENT
Wow...this just proves that not even doctors/nurses know what the heck they are talking about.
Does anybody have their head on straight? I was going to say, your weight gain sounds pretty good for how far along u are with twins.
I'm so sorry u had to go through all of that garbage. GRRRR

Re: VENT
geez thats ridiculous! Sorry that no one seems to be giving you the same advice- can you call and speak to the office manager or doctor/midwife in charge and see if you can get some answers that way?

Thanks. I had the 1 hour test at 24 weeks and results were great. I don't mind going again... if they would say its because of having twins, but I am sick of being made to feel like a pig (and then have the nutritionist tell me I am where I should be or a little under). Makes no sense!
About the midwives, I LOVE them but this specific one I can't stand. At my last appointment 2 weeks ago, I saw her (when I was scheduled to see someone else) and I understand that she is "new" but she really knew nothing about what was going with me and was contradicting what the other midwife said. So I specifically made this appointment for someone else for today and they just substituted her in anyway.

Re: VENT
J, Im annoyed for you too!!!!!!!!
WT ? is going on over there.
They need to be all on the same page because this can drive you nuts and you need to be calm during a pregnancy, esp one with twins!
You and I are literally on the same track for weight and everything...and my doc is ecstatic over how well all is going on my end!
Ugh, I would be venting royally next time to them! Also, make appts according to which midwife you want to see. Nothing is worse than dealing with someone you dont like...and I can see why!
I do, I only see MY DOC (since there are 3 there). I had one I saw before pg and her bedside manner s ucked! I refuse to let her see me, esp during this. Every appt they make, they KNOW I only see him. I think they have it noted, haha.
Hang in there and I think you are doing great!

Re: VENT
I would be pi ss ed too! I usually gain alot during my pregnancies too, and my babies have all been fine, and I lose it quickly anyways. Next time, tell them you will NOT be seeing that midwife again, JMO.

Re: VENT
I'd be pissssed off too. What would frustrate me the most is that these Drs don't seem to confer about their patients and are giving mixed information, which, IMO, can be dangerous. I'd file a complaint with someone.

Re: VENT
I know exactly who you are talking about. She is really nice but seems to do everything by the book and doesn't really think things through.
I would be ****** too. If your babies are healthy and you are healthy you really don't need all this added stress. Besides, what does it matter if you had a 9 lb baby before? You are most likely going to deliver the twins on the earlier side and there is no way they are going to get as big as a singleton would.
I too would file a complaint. It's not fair for you to be given misinformation and the run around.

Re: VENT
That is so ridiculous!
And they say stress is bad for the pregnancy yet it seems like all this extra testing, and nutritional advice makes us more stressed than anything else!
I can feel your pain. I was sent for the 1hr glucose and failed..went for the 3hr and passed with flying colors. Two nites of fasting...Two days of testing and a week of stress waiting on results for what?!
It's just so sad that you are going to these doctors and midmives for advise and guidance through your pregnancy and it seems they don't even know which direction to point you in! Going forward I'd ask to only work with a few people who can all be on the same page, and who you can meet with at the same time to discuss any mix-ups. You deserve a straight answer!
