Freaking Out!! **UPDATE on bottom**
So I don't know if anyone has noticed but I've been a bit MIA lately on the boards. A little over a month ago, DH went for a SA. It's wasn't good...at all. His numbers were all very low. He had to f/u with a urologist who sent him for a sonogram and bloodwork. I'm freaking out because tonight we go back to the urologist to find out the results. At the initial consult with the urologist, he seemed to think that DH's numbers were so bad b/c he was on a very strong medication and only stopped taking it in March. The urologist feels that this medication effectivly killed most of DH's sperm. He said that more will "grow" and mature, but it takes about 3 months. He sent him for the sonogram to rule out any obstructions (ie - veins, etc). And bloodwork to check hormone levels. Both the urologist and my ob/gyn assured us that it will in no way be impossible for us to get pregnant, but just harder and it happening natrually may not be in the cards for us. I'm just freaking out because I'm scared of what the urologist will say tonight. I feel like even if it was the meds that did this to his sperm, his numbers were sooo low that I just can't see them coming up to a normal range.
I'm sorry this is so long. I just needed to get it off my chest and vent. It's a hard position to be in. I'm trying to be strong for DH b/c he is feeling so low about all of this and feeling like "half a man" but at the same time I'm just so upset inside. Upset that he's upset, upset that he feels so weak, upset that this probably won't happen as "easily" as we thought. I don't know. I guess I just needed to get it off my chest. Thankfully my SIL and my best friend have been my ear and shoulder and allowed me to lean on them. Regardless, I'm just really scared about tonight.

Re: Freaking Out!!
First off- deep breath.
I know it's easier said than done but be strong for your DH. Hopefully it was just the meds he was on and his count will go up. Even though this could be a temporary set back it you just have to thank God that it is not something more serious. Keep us updated. We are all here for you

Re: Freaking Out!!
Well I can totally relate to how you feel .....the first SA my DH took he had NO SPERM !! It was quite shocking and very upsetting. He too was taking medication (testosterone) that completely wiped out his sperm - its known to do this but his original dr never mentioned it
Anyway - it does take at least 3 months for sperm production - we are just coming on to 3 months right now and DH will retest next week.
Did the urologist give your DH any meds to help things along? My DH was on Clomid and now on HCG that could help the sperm count.
Good luck and feel free to FM if u ever need to chat!

Re: Freaking Out!!
Valerie,
First, lots of I actually just looked you up yesterday because I noticed you hadn't been around in a while. I saw you had posted on other boards so I figure you were just taking a break from us for a little while. You've been missed
I am sorry you are going through this and it sucks but thankfully the doctors are hopeful that the sperm will return. It is so tough to wait but in the grand scheme of things three months isn't that long.
A bit of encouragement though. I know someone who had to get a tumor removed from his testicle and had NO sperm at all when they went in to remove the tumor. After having that surgery the sperm came back and was able to have a child without any fertility assistance.
Have faith. You are your DH will be in my prayers

Re: Freaking Out!!
Thank you all for your kind words and support. It was one of those MD visits that I kind of didn't know what to pray for. Pray that everything is OK...but then we would still be blindlessly trying to figure out why the numbers were so low. Or pray for something to acutally be wrong with one of the tests so we have a problem and can work on a solution. Well, no matter what I prayed for, the latter won out. The sonogram was fine but his bloodwork was a disaster...hormone levels were a complete mess which the urologist feels is contributing to everything - thyroid, FSH, LH (the last two were DOUBLED the normal amount). He now has to follow up with an endocronologist to figure out how to fix it. I think it's all still sinking in. I don't think it's fully hit me yet...I get on the brink of crying and then it stops. DH is shutting down a bit too (but this is how he deals with everything so it's not untypical - he shuts down at first to process it all, then he'll open up in a few days). So I can't really say that I'm relieved. Just another step taken on this road. One step closer though. DH did ask the MD what the chances were of me getting pregnant now, naturally. The MD said that they weren't really very good at all but that, in time, hopefully it can happen - once the hormones are fixed. He did reassure us that IUI and IVF would most likely be the best bet but he wants DH to repeat the SA.
Thank you all again for your love and support. Your posts helped me thru today in more ways than you know!

Re: Freaking Out!! **UPDATE on bottom**
I'm so sorry that this wasn't good news. But it sounds as if they've identified the problem and have a plan to fix it, so you're actually better off now than you were yesterday. And it sounds like the docs and your DH are ready and willing to get things moving along quickly.
I can't imagine how frustrating this must be. I wish you'd heard better news.

Re: Freaking Out!! **UPDATE on bottom**
Dont give up hope -- there are a lot of different things it can be - and most can be treated -- not sure why the dr gave you such a grim outlook before first finding out whats causing the high levels.
Did they test his testosterone levels? Usually they are out of range along with the LH and FSH
In case you need a second opinion - Ive heard amazing things about these drs - they are considered some of the best in male infertility:

Good luck

Thank you so much for this website. I'm going to look it over more and talk to DH about it too.
The MD wasn't harsh about the outlook by any means. DH just asked him a question regarding the likelyhood of me getting pregnant now without any outside help and he was just honest - saying that it would be difficult.
Thank you all so much though! Your support has been so wonderful!!!
