HELP! Has anyone ever had FLEAS in their house?
hi all,
we rescued a dog yesterday and i am in love that's the good news.
bad news: she's got fleas
we've had her for less than 24 hours, and i've only found a few on her (2-3). i've bathed her with flea shampoo and only one came off. there are none readily visible on her body.
i've washed the bedding, and tonight i will vacuum the couches. i've sprayed the rugs with flea spray.
PLEASE - if you have any suggestions or advice i would GREATLY appreciate it!!!

Re: HELP! Has anyone ever had FLEAS in their house?
Congrats on your rescue and new pet.
Now....go to the vet and get a topical treatment such as Frontline. No flea baths, no dips, they don't work and are dangerous. You need something that will break the flea cycle ASAP. You have to go to the vet to get the right product. DO NOT WAIT.
Honestly, dont spray your house. All the vacuuming in teh world wont help. You need to get the dog to the vet to get a topical flea product which will sterilize the fleas and kill them as they are on your pet. And if any have escaped into your home, using the product monthly will break the cycle and you will get rid of them.
We have had fleas years ago. Without the Frontline, things can get bad quickly. Dangerous to people and pets (fleas). With a product like Frontline, my dogs have gotten fleas but they have never gotten infested and the fleas always die.

ITA with the previous post! My dogs had flea problems when I first got them... Frontline stops the cycle. Female fleas feed on your dog before laying eggs. So, once your dog has Frontline on ... the fleas will die before they have had a chance to lay eggs. My house hasn't had 1 flea since I started using it on my dogs.

The frontline on the dogs, once you are living there, will break the cycle. The fleas will be attracted to the dogs bodies, and then the flea will jump on the dog and be sterilized and die. So make sure you use the frontline YEAR ROUND, esp in a house you KNOW had fleas.

Re: HELP! Has anyone ever had FLEAS in their house?
ALso...what you can do if you DO see living fleas walking on him.
Get a flea comb. Take a clear container and fill it with some water and dawn dish detergent. Comb over where you see the fleas and the flea comb will grab the fleas. QUICKLY dip the comb (fully submersed) Into the sudsy water. You will literally see the fleas drown and drop to the bottom of the clear container.
That's the way I would always get the fleas off of my dog when I would see them b/c even though the frontline will work, I want those suckers GONE asap!!!

Re: HELP! Has anyone ever had FLEAS in their house?
my dog got fleas BAD one year...I started by picking flees and and killing them with a tweezer (id squoosh them and flush them) then I got the flea & tick shampoo bathed her in that and clipped her hair short...put frontline on her and bought an all natural flea spray and basically BOMBED my house...but be careful...while it was an all natural product it still smelled sooooooo strong! I also vacummed and steamed my bed and couches, swept and mopped every inch of the house. the problem was quickly solved

Re: HELP! Has anyone ever had FLEAS in their house?
A fea years ago, I had a MAJOR situation with fleas and my strictly indoor long hair white ragdoll cat.
A friend brought a dog over (without asking of course) and this is how we believe the fleas came to be.
I used to think they JUST lived on the animal. I now know different.
We did the bath thing... and that worked for the animal. but not my house!! they were EVERYWHERE!! the entire place was INFESTED with them!!! I tried everything to no avail!! I was sooo desperate.
My mother's friend told me to try this stuff called Sevin. it's found in the gardening aisle. They sell it for plants and stuff. It's a VERY fine powder .. like flour. I put it ALL OVER THE PLACE... on and under EVERYTHING. i washed every single item of clothing, bedding, etc... everything. I heard to wash the clothes with a little splash of ammonia in the machine. and use hot water!!
I kept the sevin on EVERYTHING over night. we slept out. and then came home and vaccumed it up. threw out the filter thingy from the vaccum (be careful of doing this too when you have a flea situation, most people tend to forget that part). i swear I bombed several times with stuff from pet stores and all over. products specifically for fleas... NOTHING worked... EXCEPT this sevin stuff!! It dehydrates the fleas... in all the cycles... so it kills all cycles of the flea parasite!!
AND since it's mainly meant for gardening... you can also sprinkle it there.
Good Luck!!
