Parenting related vacation rave!
We wanted to take 11 month old DS on vacation, but wanted to go within driving distance of LI. We chose Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, which wound up being a 2.5 hour drive from mid-Suffolk. They were so incredibly accomodating with the baby, and had a pack and play and jogging stroller waiting for us in our room. They have an indoor pool and even supply swimmies for babies. They also had a spa, where I enjoyed an amazing pedicure while DH swam w/ DS. DS was walking outside barefoot and stepped on a bee, and the doctor on call noticed and ran over and gave him ice, and later checked on us to make sure DS did not have an allergic reaction to the sting! (luckily he didn't)
It was all-inclusive and included 3 meals at day, and at each meal they had a separate children's buffet with chicken fingers, fries, regular salads, fruit, etc., so DS ate soooo well and loved the variety. They were very accomodating and understanding when DS threw half of his food on the floor! Every afternoon they had afternoon tea and cookies. It was kind of overcast, but we took a boat out and spent much of the time enjoying the beautiful scenery. So, a rave for any families looking for a close getaway!

I have stayed there with my parents in the past it was a great place - I keep trying to convince DH to go there. Maybe next year since you said they are really accommodating with kids!
I know Steven King used to go there to write. They have beautiful grounds and lot to do there!

LOL They told us he has been going there to write forever! I can see why. I will really have to convince DH now - your trip sounded great!!
BTW did they automatically give you a jogging stroller or did you have to request one?

We love it at Mohonk!! We live right in New Paltz so we go a lot. The service is always good and the staff is super friendly

Your DS is so adorable!
We requested the stroller and pack and play, though DS wanted to sleep in bed with us instead (fine since we had two beds anyway). I brought a small stroller, but the jogging stroller was better for the rocky trails.
They have a kid's club for children 2 years+, where kids can use full-day activities in a camp-like day. Next year DS will be old enough, so we'll get some time to ourselves!
Thanks for all the DS comments! Can't believe he's almost a year!

I've been there with DH and can't wait to go back with DS. It really is a great place with lots to do and beautiful scenery. Love the pictures. Your son is so cute!

I went to school in New Paltz - those pics bring back great memories Glad you had a good time! I had dinner there once, it was amazing, and I used to go hiking there all the time. Great vacation spot!

WOW, looks like a great relaxing place!
Glad to hear you had a great stay! it does help enjoy rest when you are not worried about the accomodations!

I think they really changed lately--added the indoor pool and spa within the past few years, along with a bar (they used to not serve alcohol). I was embarrassed by DS throwing SOOOO much food on the floor  , but they couldn't have made me feel more comfortable.
