Breast Milk Question

Hi Everyone-

My name is Danielle. I have a 2 month old and my MIL is watching him tomorrow while we move to a new house. My question is if I need to take milk out of the freezer to use for 4 feedings when should I take it out of the freezer to put it in the fridge to defrost? I read it is good for 24 hours after defrosting so how long will it take to defrost I guess is my question.

Also, I am travelling next week 4 hours for a wedding. I am leaving the morning of the wedding. Do you think it is safe to bring frozen milk in a cooler? It doesn't matter if it defrosts because I will use it that night? Is this correct? Thanks so much!

Thanks so much- I am lost!!!

Re: Breast Milk Question

Once milk is frozen you basically kill it, and its like formula. You can keep it frozen, but the minute it starts to defrost, you have to use it within 24 hours. I would keep it frozen until the last minute, and soak it in hot water before ready to use.

Yes, you can take it out of freezer and use it within the 24 hours of taking it out, very safely!

Re: Breast Milk Question

I wouldn't stress about it - milk defrosts so quickly - just run it under warm water and let soak for a few min.

As far as traveling with it, as long as it's cold in a cooler, you'll be fine and just make sure you use it within 24 hrs.
