I can't believe it either. My kids are SOOO antsy it's unreal.
I'm glad this year because Rob is home so I don't need to freak out over the spare week between end of school/start of camp.

Am I alone in this?
I won't try to defend the teachers because unless you've ever taught elementary school in June you can't relate, and most people erroneously think they can so it's not worth the discussion.
Seriously, you can't even begin to imagine the horror of June. Being a teacher is a great job until the temperature goes up and the kids check out. In late September it's survival of the fittest. Don't judge until you've walked a mile in a teacher's shoes.

Re: I can't believe it's the last week of school already!!!
Posted by nrthshgrl I get that everyone is antsy but the kids get plenty of down time also - I consider this entire week daycare not school.
I kind of agree. I haven't taught.. but a good number of my friends are el ed. teachers. It's gotta be the cruddiest month EVER for teachers.. but I often feel like the last 2 weeks of school are just 'wasted' - no point at all outside of making sure the school is open for the appropriate amount of time.
Overall - I'm fine with it though. As long as the kids are safe and cared for!
The thing that really irritates me is the not even half days.. you know where they go in on Thursday at 9 and leave at 10:15.. really? Why is that?

I can't relate because I haven't taught but really Toy Story?
American Girl Doll? Planet Earth? There are a thousand other movies that have some kind of lesson - teaching snuck in.

My son is in 1st grade and has taken his "final" and is basically done. They are not watching movies but I wouldn't find anything wrong with that for some part of the week (not everyday, all day).

Re: I can't believe it's the last week of school already!!!
I have 2 kids in school. One is in 5th and the second is in 8th and between the different dismissal times, tests & regents times I am so afraid I will miss something. Wed at 1pm is one graduation, then Thurs at 7pm is the other, plus 5th grade moms have to help setup for kindergarten graduation at 10am on Thurs. and I have to get babysitting for my 2 year old!AGHHHH!!
I still can't believe in September I will have a middle schooler, high schooler and a preschooler!!!!

My 3rd grader watched Toy Story 1 & 2 also, they finished #2 today. I think they are all just mentally spent! Today was the last full day and they really aren't doing much work. She also watched a movie about "science" too.
I will have a 4th grader a 2nd grader and a kindergartner!!
