You know I NEVER understand when I see these guys with their SO, like doesn't she take care of him?? How is she not grossed out?? I mean, life happens, my DH is gorgeous, but he's bald & USED to have hair where it didn't belong, but I took care of that. really, take care of your man.
Maybe it doesn't bother a lot of women. What grosses out one person, doesn't faze another because they are focused on different aspects. One of my friends can't figure out why guys would date overweight women, he doesn't believe us when we say a great personality overcomes a lot of the shallow, physical requirements that might have been important before.
Whoa, don't call me shallow when you don't know me... I don't like my DH with a hairy back... just like he would NOT like me with hairy legs... So before you call me shallow, think if you would be able to see past it if your SO didn't shave her legs or armpits or didn't brush her teeth or wears tube socks with high heels or whatever your particular thing is... we all have our quirks of what we like and don't like appearance wise… and if he said “Tough, I have a hairy back, deal” I would say fine… but since we like to please each other and be as attractive as we can for each other we BOTH do things we know the other would like, even though we don’t particularly care for ourselves.
I did not call you shallow.
I was calling the first characteristics of a person we notice, the physical, shallow. Once you go deeper, the more meaningful aspects of a person, the shallow, just doesn't matter that much anymore.

I just wonder how this thread would have turned out if it had been about overweight women in bathing suits?
Very true!
My DH is not the least bit hairy--none on his back..small amount on his chest.
My brother however is and he is SO self concsicous about it.
My SIL helps him nair or wax before vaca--and then he gets red and the bumps--it is really hard to maintain--not to mention really painful
Why is okay to call out a hairy man wearing a tank? it is just rude.
I mean it IS 100 degrees out--should hairy men have to sweat their a$$es off for fear of "grossing out" someone?

Wow, really?
I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to express my opinion. So men with hairy backs gross me out. So what? That doesn't make me a bad person. It means I have preferences. Lima beans gross me out too. Should I be afraid of offending lima bean plans and those who grow them?
This is just ridiculous - I meant this thread to be humorous, it wasn't meant to offend, I found it funny (and gross) and I figured I'd share. Next time I'll know better.

I never said it made you a bad person.
Insulting something someone can't help is not the same as disliking lima beans, but I think you know that.

You're right, it's not the same, but once again I was trying to be humorous. Major fail, I see.
I'll save my opinions for the Celebrity and Entertainment board from now on... because of course it's perfectly okay to comment on how famous people look, just not strangers on the street. I've been properly admonished

Very good point...often I will comment on C&E and say rude things that I would never think to say on FHF out of fear of hurting someone's feelings.
I guess for me it made me feel badly bc I know this is something someone I love (my brother) is so self conscious about. Didn't mean to take it out on you

LB- you KNOW I love you more than I love my luggage (and being a former flight attendant that's a HUGE complement).....
I wasn't offended at all- but felt the need to express the love I have for my dh and his sweater.
Now- chunks of antiperspirant under the arms......THAT'S nasty.

My DH is pretty hairy and I really do not mind it.
That being said I do not like ANY MAN in a tank top or sleeveless shirt!! Men in tank tops completely skeeve me out - I really don't care if they have the best body in the world - for me tanktops on men =

DW of hairy DH's -you mean in this weather they don't get rid of it. It's like wearing a sweater my DH says. As soon as I buzz him (too much hair for nair or waxing) he feels 10 degrees cooler.
