Birthday Tradition Gift ideas

I want to start a birthday tradition gift for Mia. Something I would always give her each year just on her birthday- a collection of some sort, maybe a charm bracelet, tea set, something that would be a tradition but that I could continue even into the years that she gets older. Any ideas?

Re: Birthday Tradition Gift ideas

why not do a pandora bracelet, with a charm that signifies something significant or some milestone that year.

or

Precious moments?

Re: Birthday Tradition Gift ideas

I wanted to do Pandora but what automatically jumped into my mind was what happens when they are no longer "in"- I worry that the tradition would be broken. Looking for something that would not be a trend . . .

it can be expensive - but it's something my mom did for me every year...

we'd go see a broadway show (it started when i was maybe 10)... we'd spend the day in the city - and i'd get an outfit at Conway...and we'd do lunch and see a matinee. this continued until i was about 26'ish....and now it's just - if we find a show we want to see - we go together.

i have more fond memories of that time than I could possibly share. i plan to do it with em when she's old enough...and God willing my mom will be around - she'll HAVE to come with us.

I def. would like to do this when she gets to an appropriate age.

I really like the idea of a charm bracelet- tiffany seems like it would be a good idea- but $$$ to start.

Re: Birthday Tradition Gift ideas

Swarovski Crystals are a nice idea too. Checked out the Tiffany website and it seems that the only children's sized bracelet is a reg. link bracelet without the clasps for the charms. The regular sized clasp bracelet is $475 alone and then the charms are $100+

Re: Birthday Tradition Gift ideas

It's so hard.

I was trying to think of something for DD (she's now almost 3) and I can't think of anything.

I myself don't like figurines/collectibles such as precious moments and Kim anderson and the like so I don't want to start that up for her. The bracelet may be a better option? I also like the pearl necklace idea.

The thoughts on collectibles for me right off the bat is clutter which is why I am leaning more toward something that won't just be on display in the house. I am thinking that I will save all of her birthday outfits and have them made into a quilt for her one day, but also want to do something more immediate.

Re: Birthday Tradition Gift ideas

For my DD's first birthday we got her a share of Tiffany stock from OneShare.com. It was framed and had an engraved plaque.

Since you want something meaningful yet maybe not to display, get her a different stock every year (like Disney, Tiffany, Mattel, etc) and put all of the certificates in a really nice leather album.

My BIL, DS's godfather is doing something really unique for DS. He is giving him a piece to the Lennox nativity each year for Christmas, Birthday and other major occasions.

Re: Birthday Tradition Gift ideas

Not necessarily a "gift" but Each year I buy a card and Dh and I both write in the card about the memories of that year. It is put away and we are going to give them all to her when she it either 16 or 18(can't decide).

Not a gift either, but every year I write DD a letter about how she changed during the year; things she did & funny things she said, etc.
