THat would highly upset me. I would be hesitant for that friend to get too close to baby again and I would make sure to find a way to say NO kissing on the lips.

I feel the same way. I told DH and he agreed that it was gross but told me not to get so mad. Are you kidding me?? I don't really see her so often so that works out good. But ***?? I think I'm in shock that someone would do that (even though she's a friend). I wouldn't even kiss my own nieces and nephews on the lips. I don't think I'll let her hold him again. Hope I'm not overr reactingChat Icon

You guys!! I agree it's kinda strange and off-putting, but to limit her time with the kid? To give a child a whole bath for a kiss? It's not like she gave the kid a tongue bath or french-kissed him! Of course you're entitled to your feelings but it just seems a bit over-reactive to me.

Just tell people "please don't kiss the baby" and be done with it.

I agree, its one thing to not like kissing on the lips, but to scrub your baby down and consider limiting your friends time......for loving your child? Even if you dont like the kissing, you can just tell her that. I think they way you reacted was extreme, but not your reasoning for it.

Just FYI - I didnt mind when people kissed DS on the lips and I do it to my nephews.

Re: Kissing your DC in the mouth!

I probably would have internally freaked out too -- it is gross, IMO for someone to kiss your baby on the lips unless it is you, your DH, the grandparents, or maybe aunts if you are very close. My DD loves to kiss on the lips lately and I get a little freaked when she tries to kiss people other than us on the lips, but I usually let it go.

I come from a family who kisses on the lips, but I still would not do that to a non-family member's child. That being said, I think you're being a little dramatic. You gave your baby a bath because your "friend" kissed him on the lips? I'm finding it more shocking your reaction towards your friend than what they did. I mean, it could have been easily remedied by you asking her not to do that. It's your kid, you can ask anyone to not do anything you want. I'd be a better friend to her and give her the benefit of the doubt that she's not some horrible monster who goes around spreading her germs via her friend's kids.

Let me clarify about the bath thing....He was due for one anyway because he was a sticky spit up mess! not because my friend kissed him. That being said...maybe because it's my first child but I try not to expose him to unnecessary germs. I think the only ones who should be kissing my sons lips are me, dh, and grandparents (i know they can't help it).
I just figured that it was common sense to not kiss other babies on the lips especially if they are not related to you. I also don't think that my friend is monster! lol...next time i will definitely open my mouth. thanks

I think you can clearly understand why people thought you were overreacting then. I mean, your OP totally made it sound like you bathed your child because your friend kissed him, not because he was due for a bath.

I agree about who should be kissing a child's lip- but I suppose this is a lesson learned that not everything is common sense to some people.

I personally just don't see this as something to actually get MAD over, so I wouldn't let it change my friendship. She made a mistake and overstepped. It's your job as the parent to set those boundaries from here on out with her.

I definitely agree with you. My dc is only 4 months and you're right....I should've said something right then and there. I guess i was being a little over protective being a first time mommy i won't let this hurt my relationship with my friend. thank you for the advice i appreciate it.Chat Icon

Chat Icon Well, I totally agree that it should be common sense to not go around kissing other people's babies on the mouths (unless you know it's okChat Icon ), but I've also come to realize that even the people I love the most in this world don't always have as much common sense as they shouldChat Icon
I'm sorry if I came across harsh, I was really trying to be funny, but my sleep deprivation left it sounding a little harsh instead! Chat Icon

I agree. My DS gives sloppy open mouth kisses and I still don't mind close friends and family kissing him wherever and whenever they can! Probably not a stranger, but...

my dd kisses everyone on the lips. and you cannot resist her little lips all puckered looking for kisses.

if it really puts you off, tell her nicely next time not to kiss him on the lips.

Re: Kissing your DC in the mouth!

If it were a friend I'd fess up.

Hey that last time when you kissed AJ in the lips.. well it sorta freaked me out. I know I'm lil miss overprotective mom, ha, what can I say? No one kisses her like that but me. I know you meant no harm, but there's lots of little germies we have that we don't even think about.

Anyway.. no biggie but can you do me a fav? Can you just not kiss her in the lips again? I'd appreciate it. Thanks

End of story.

a year ago I would have cared, but now my youngest has been planting lip kisses on me and everyone. I was shocked at first (b/c he holds your head to get your lips), but now it's more normal.

Chat Icon I know I think my DD does this sometimes.

As for this girl, I might be a bit weirded out, but I wouldn't give my kid a bath because of it. JMO

Edit: Oops sorry, just saw you didn't give him a bath because of that. I would let it go.
