What is this about Peanut Butter??
I had a co-worker tell me to stay away frorm eating Peanut Butter.
She said it can increase the chances of the baby having a Peanut Allergy???
Never heard of these things before. But I feel like people are always commenting on what I am eating.
I love PEANUT BUTTER!!! I can't live without...oh well!

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
I heard that too, but then I also heard that avoiding peanut butter can increase the likelihood of peanut allergy. There is so much conflicting info out there Eat your peanut butter and don't worry about it!

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
Thats not true. What is true is that you really should not introduce peanut butter to babies/ toddlers. They think giving peanuts/ peanut products to very young child may be a cause of allergies.
You can eat peanut butter!!

That is the silliest thing I've ever heard!! I don't see how this could possibly be true bc people have allergies to all sorts of foods.

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
I think everything in moderation is fine.
There are just some women out there who take it to the extreme and then like to VOICE their opinion to US!
I still ate my Peanut Butter Toast this morning.

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
I find that very hard to believe if anything I would think it prevents allergies. When I was nursing DS I was told to eat PB that way he would be less likely to have an allergy so I don't see why eating it while pregnant would change anything>

This was a theory several years ago, and might still be a theory floating around there. But there is no evidence to support it.

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
when I was pregnant with DD (granted it was 12 years ago) I was hardly able to stomach anything but peanut butter on bread (and sometimes directly off the spoon )
DD does NOT have a peanut allergy. I think by not eating it when pregnant could increase the chances if anything.
I am eating it this time around as well with no worries. If we worried about everything that is said what would we be able to eat !

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
That's not true. As a matter of fact my Dr. said to try and eat peanut butter with crackers at night to avoid having M/S. He said the nutrients are good for you and lo.

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
I was told to be more concerned about peanut butter when BFing and that there was more of a rise of severe peanut allergies with BFing moms who ate peanut butter. Personally, I don't buy it but I am not a medical professional so what do I know?
I will say this though, I ate A LOT of bologna when I was PG with Abby and now she wants to name her brother Oscar Meyer. Be very careful.

I was actually told the opposite. I did end up eating peanut butter throughout pregnancy and while BFing. The studies on peanut butter seem to have different conclusions. If you have a family history of peanut allergies, I'd be careful about consuming peanut butter. Otherwise, I think it's fine.

Re: What is this about Peanut Butter??
There are studies out there that indicate eating PB once you are in your 6th month can increase the chances of your child having a peanut allergy. Just like they will tell you if you are nursing to avoid it as well.
When I was pregnant with DD we were told this during our child birthing classes.
I did NOT avoid PB since I had GD with my DD and PB was my saving grace at mealtimes......
