Parents of older children - esp teenagers. Re:bedtime
DH, SS, and I were discussing bedtime. He is 13 years old and feels like he shouldn't have a bedtime - or at least during summer and on weekends. DH decided what he thought was fair but I just thought I would ask if anyone has any experience with this. THanks :)

No bedtime per se, but on nights that I have to work the next day they have to be in the house, doors locked by 11. They can stay in their rooms and do whatever, or even in the basement, but I don't want to hear it.
Nights I don't have to work I am a little more lenient than that.
I have a 16, 14, and 11 yo.

Midnight is enough for a 13 year old. I may feel differently when my kids are 13.
I'm not saying they are going to adhere to the bedtime but they should be in their beds. For sleepovers, no bedtime but party of sleepovers is having the parent yell to go to bed & not.

Ok, well maybe we are a little strict. We agreed that 11 in bed with sleep timer on the tv for 30 minutes during summer/weekends except for the rare occassion and 10:30 during school and if he wants tv, earlier.

MY DSS is 14 during the summer we allow him to stay up until 10pm, he is allowed to be up longer in his bedroom reading.
I will add that he has developmental disabilities and is more on par with an 8 year old, we can't let him stay up if an adult isn't awake.

I don't think that is strict at all. I don't have kids that old yet, but I think it's appropriate. I would even venture to say on a school night, that bed might be a little earlier for my kids (10 p.m.), as they are up early.

I dont care what time they actually go to bed but you will not be spending the whole day in bed...

I dont want to see you after 11pm....

When my oldest ds (who is 17) was younger as were the other kids, I was stricter, but now they can go to bed whenever, but I try not to let them sleep all day. If im home i wake them at 11:30. They have to be in by curfew. My dd who is 14 1/2 likes to stay up all hours. . My youngest (he will be 12) stays up till about 12 during summer or weekends. Doesnt bother me. Actually on weekends my husband and I sleep till 11 too!

OMG-what I would GIVE for my kids to spend the whole day in bed--
Both my kids (almost 12 and almost 7) are up by 6am EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. This past Saturday they were both up at 5am!!!---
