Has anyone ever changed their dog's name?
Our puppy is currently being called "Jacqui", she's had that name for around 2-3 weeks.
We will be changing her name as soon as we get her... obviously she will need to get used to it but seeing how she's young and has only had this other name for a short time I don't really foresee any big issues. Anyone ever do this?

Yes.. I guess I did change my dogs name. We adopted my dog from a shelter when he was almost 1 yrs old. Not sure what his name was before the shelter but in the shelter they called him "Othello", when we adopted him we renamed him "Porter". He actually responded to his new name fairly quickly... we also have a nickname for him (Beans) that he responds to as well. Poor guy has had 4 names! lol He handled the change well though, maybe a little confused at first but caught on quickly.

Re: Has anyone ever changed their dog's name?
Yes when we adopted our dog he was ten and had a shelter name which we did not like. He was at the pound for about a year and prior to that he was in a kill shelter in brooklyn and before that no one knows. so other then the name he had at the shelter for that short time no one knows his name for the other 9 years of his life. very said, so we named him what we wanted and this will be his name for the rest of his life

Re: Has anyone ever changed their dog's name?
yep, most dogs from shelters are named a name so they don't have to give them a number to track them. they usually never even know that name, its more for the office.
change way
Our dog had a name at his home for 5 months and then went to the shelter. the shelter didn't know his former name so we just named him something else. it took him about a week to get it. I think his name might have been very similar to our other dogs name though, because everytime we would call max, he would look or run to us

Re: Has anyone ever changed their dog's name?
Well our dog had a different name at the shelter. Once we adopted her we changed her name.
eta: at the shelter, they told us to use both names at first. Basically use the new name and then follow it up with the old name. Then they said you can just eventually drop the old name. We did this for a short period (it was a mouthful though) and then we just dropped the old name. She did fine.

Re: Has anyone ever changed their dog's name?
Brinkley's original name from birth to 9 months was "Boss". Terrible choice for a dog with his personality, so we changed it.
We don't know what Ginger's name was before she was rescued. She responds to it well, and she's over 3 years old. They're much more resilient than we take them for.
