Any coaches?

I have an interview tomorrow at a catholic HS for a jv cheer coach.

I am thinking if this is all I have in September at least its a foot in the door at a school.

I have never been on a coaching interview. Any advice?

Do you think its a foot in the door?

Give it to me straight..worth it or not?

Re: Any coaches?

Coaching interviews were always a lot easier then job ones....most of the time they needed me more then I needed them ( I coached Field Hockey and Lacrosse so it wasnt so easy to fill). A good foot in the door though! Good Luck!

ETA: I never got a job directly from coaching, I was usually in the wrong place and the wrong time, I think one or two of my coaching postions may have turned to full time jobs if they had a job to give me. BUT it did build my resume for the job I have now.

Re: Any coaches?

Thanks. How about attire? Should I wear a suit or dress pants and a nice shirt?

Re: Any coaches?

I coach Varsity Softball and used to coach Varsity Basketball (along with JH for both sports) but I got both positions once I was already teaching in my school.

I would approach it as a regular interview, dressed in a suit. They might want to know if you are certified to coach (you need first aid, cpr up to date and then have to take three coaching classes - at least in Nassau County) and what your stance is on cuts/including all. What is a typical practice like, what experience do you have coaching/with the sport, how do you deal with difficult parents, what safety precautions do you take. Basically think of any questions you are asked on a job interview for teaching and change it for coaching.

Good luck!

Re: Any coaches?

Thanks. Good to know!

My first aid expires next month and I don't know about my CPR. I took them all about 3 years ago.

Re: Any coaches?

CPR/AED you must redo every year, First Aid every three years.
