diabetes
my dog was recently diagnosed with diabetes. We started her insulin shots and hopefully we will have her levels figured out soon. We need to switch her food too. Were were feeding her Innova and our vet told us to get science diet, but it makes her terribly sick (she was up all night with diarhea and now refuses to eat it). anyone have suggestions on a different food that is good for diabetic dogs?

Re: diabetes
Did you switch her over the new food slowly, over a period of two weeks? Or did you just stop the old food cold turkey and start her on the new food immediately. Dogs need their food changed very gradually so their digestive systems can adjust slowly. It could be that she was switched too quickly.
I don't have any other food suggestions, but hopefully someone else does. I will say that I have never had good luck with Science Diet foods with any dogs or cats... It caused bad breath, bad bathroom habits, and made a couple of them sick. That said, I know a lot of people have luck with it.
Good luck!

Re: diabetes
We had a diabetic dog. We had him on Pedigree at the time and our vet did not tell us to switch. He did great on what he as eating. He go his insulin shots twice a day and we tested his urine right before we gave him his shots so we knew how much to give him. he was pretty regular for the most part.
I agree with the PP. If you are going to switch his food, then make sure you do it slowly. That will definitely cause diarrhea. Good luck!

Re: diabetes
thanks for the replies... yes, we gave her the new food gradually 1/2 and 1/2 with her old food and she would either not eat, throw up after, or have diarrhea. I just returned the food to our vet and the told me to give her a different type of science diet, the low fat one (r/f). im confused though because she is already on a light food that she likes. Im also not crazy about science diet because they were one of the companies to have recalls in the past.
