Any mommies deliver at Southside?
How was your delivery experience at Southside Hospital? My doctor said I can choose either Southside or Good Sam for my scheduled c-section and I am curious to hear any feedback on Southside. I had previously had a c-section at Good Sam and am really drawn to Southside because of their private rooms this time around. TIA

Re: Any mommies deliver at Southside?
I had both my girls at Southside and I had a great experience both times. It was all updated a few years back and is very nice. Another thing that I like is that they put out a buffet in the hallway for meals. So you have lots of choices and can pick what you like. It is also good insentive to get out of bed. They only thing that I did not like was the visiting hours are all day pretty much. I think it is something like 12-8. IMO, it was toooo much. I got very little rest and I had a c/s both times. Every time that I would dose off, someone else would walk in
ETA: I also had a private room which I highly recommend.

Had both at Southside and loved my experience. I had a private room both times and wouldn't do it any other way.

Re: Any mommies deliver at Southside?
I had my son at Southside. I have to say honestly that I thought the nurses there were soooo beyond nasty, the ones I had anyway. However, I did think that the rooms were nicer.
I had my daughter at Good Sam and the nurses were sooo amazing there. I had a private room... You can request it and if there is one available you can have it. I just loved Good Sam.
ETA: It was the labor and delivery nurses that were nasty in Southside. I thought the mother baby nurses were fine. They were not very helpful, but they were not mean.

Re: Any mommies deliver at Southside?
Had both daughters there- scheduled c-sections. Loved the experience with my first DD, great nurses, private room, etc. When my dr. moved and I chose a new dr., they said they usually deliver at Good Sam, but I asked to go to Southside and thankfully was able to do that (because it was a scheduled c). Had a private room again (so good when my 2 year-old came up for visits) and great nurses again. I highly recommend Southside.

Everything is true except the visiting hours. They changed it. I just went to visit a baby. I'm glad they changed it too b/c for the new mom it could be very overwhelming.
Southside is great- no comlaints at all. good luck!

Re: Any mommies deliver at Southside?
I had a WONDERFUL experience at Southside!! I recommend the private room. The nurses at Southside are more than FANTASTIC!! You can tell that they truly LOVE there job! I loved the buffet they offered also, lol!
My first delivery was at Good Sam and I was not too happy with the maternity ward or the room situation.

Re: Any mommies deliver at Southside?
I had both DC at Southside & had a wonderful experience both times. The nurses were truly amazing & went above & beyond. They were quite helpful w/ bf & answering any q's I had & being attentive.
My first time there they had regular meals (no buffet) but I agree; its nice to have a choice & get out & meet some other moms.
They have maybe 10 private rooms which are great. I know they went up from 110 to 250 a night though (that was in 09).
If you like you can have your baby in the room 24/7.
I agree w/ Chris though...the visiting hours were a bit TOO MUCH. They were lax w/ it & allowed children & there were times when I just wanted to rest.
2 thumbs up though..fm me if you have any other q's.

Re: Any mommies deliver at Southside?
I delivered at Good Sam (no choice, that's where my OB practice delivered) and both SILs delivered at Southside. Go with Southside, hands down. I HATED the maternity floor at Good Sam. Tiny, cramped rooms, no one gave a sh1t about visiting hours, ugh. My SILs experience at Southside was extremely positive.
GO WITH SOUTHSIDE!!!

Re: Any mommies deliver at Southside?
Thanks so much girls for all your feedback, makes me feel a lot better about my decision and what I'm going to tell my doctor this week. The private rooms at good sam are nearly impossible to get, especially the time of year I'm delivering in. My close family member has worked at Good Sam for over 20 years and even with the comfort of knowing she was there to look out for me and have extra care given to me, when I had my emergency c-section first time around, my roommate siutation completely hindered my recovery and I really don't think I want to or could physically put myself through that again. Glad I'm not the only one who agrees that they don't give a crap about visiting hours, it especially sucks when your bed is right by the door. I feel like I didn't get to sleep my entire 5 days I had there. Thanks again
