which degree do you think is better for the market right now?
so i had an interview and got all the way to the superintendent and then was told i didn't have enough literacy experience. i am a special ed teacher with a specialty in autism.
i am thinking about going back for another masters or advanced certificate. i need to get some more experience and i believe that student teaching will help.
which do you think is more desirable for a district:
literacy
early childhood
science
thanks for your opinions.
etd to add that i did not have to student teach when i got my degree as i already worked in a sped school.

Hmm..I would think Science would be your best bet. Many of my friends who are certified in elementary are also certified in Literacy. Whenever someone tells me they are certified in another area (such as a secondary content area) I think they will have a better chance at securing a job in the district.

I think science would be best, but I am biased. I teach science  .
If you decide to do science, though, you will need to pick a content area (bio, physics, chem, earth science). I teach biology, but I know that is the toughest position to find as so many people major in biology in college. You may be able to get an extension for general science for grades 5-7 if you are elementary certified.

my husband and i both have our masters in literacy and this year a principal had actually told him that the degree was pretty much useless...

If you want to teach in a sd . . .I wouldn't have early childhood. honestly, early childhood teachers are a dime a dozen. I would get a certification in Math at the HS level!!!
