Getting Scared...Please Help!
I am due on Weds. but I doubt thats happening since I am not effaced or dilated but the thought of labor and/or c-section is really hitting me and I am getting really scared and nervous. This is our first baby and I guess its just not knowing what to expect is freaking me out.
Any words of advice? Thanks Ladies

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
Believe me, I'm scared sh!tless.
I was talking to my friend who has two children one natural and the other c-section. She's told me it is scary but it is one of the most natural thing a women can do. You will be fine, this is what your body was made for!
I don't know if it has helped but just think of all those people that do it over and over again. You get the biggest reward at the end, to finally see your LO.

All I can say to you is that you will be fine and if you are spiritual, now is the time to pray and know that you are going to be holding your little baby in your arms VERY SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't be scared. Giving birth is amazing! When it happens your not even going to think about being scared you are going to think about meeting the baby!

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I was petrified right before I gave birth. I was hysterical crying as DH drove us to the hospital. It was like he was driving me to prison instead of the hospital to have our baby! I was induced and scared of having a vaginal birth, then I was told it was going to be a c-section and I was scared of that! Please don't be scared. It is only natural to be scared of what you don't know, but just stay focused on the few hours of some discomfort- one word, MEDICATION- and think of the beautiful person that will be here when it is over The c-section is nothing to be scared of if that is the way you go. You feel some pinching in you back as they put in the medication and then you feel nothing. It is all over so fast and I was moving within a few hours. I am the world's biggest baby and if I can do it (and am getting ready to do it again), you can do it! Good luck!

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I was never really scared about labor by the end of my pregnancy I was ready to be done. Honestly, I had pictured it worse then it was. I personally had a very easy labor with my son. The recovery was rough but so worth it!

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I am the worst when it comes to all things "medical" being pregnant and labor were the two things in life that scared me to death, so much so that I had a long period of time where I said I did not want any kids.
For me.. the anticipation and the unknown were FAR worse than the actual thing. I've had both... a vaginal delivery with my DD and a c-section with my DS.
At the end of the day, I would have preferred a vaginal delivery with my DS, but my health and his health were more important than my wants, but that's besides the point.
Remember.. an Epidural is your BEST FRIEND!!! Honestly, I was always the first to say I would take whatever drugs tehy offered me, I didn't take any pain meds when I labored with my DD, BUT I know how I am with pain, and did ask for the epidural pretty quickly, I had no desire to be a "hero" for me, it made my experience tolerable.
And honestly, the SECOND DD was out, and the SECOND DS was out, I forgot all about everything I had just gone through. Once you see your little one, hold them, kiss them.... everything else becomes a blur.
You'll do GREAT!!!!!

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I am completely TERRIFIED of giving birth! I have been for a long time...I have tried to put it out of my mind but now that I'm starting the 3rd tri I am starting to fret again...
I still tell everyone I am hoping the stork will just come but people keep reminding me that isn't going to happen lol...
Good luck! I hope labor comes to you soon! It seems everyone who's gone through it says it's all worth it so I guess we just need to focus on the end product right?

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
Just b/c you're not dialated and effaced right now doesn't necessaarily mean you're going to need a c-section. Lots of women walk around at 2 or 3 cm for weeks. And I have a friend that was four days from her EDD and went for a doc's appt. The doc told her that it would be at least another week. She went into labor that night and delivered four hours later.
It'll be ok!!! I'm not a BTDT, but I thik of it like this: there are almost 7 BILLION people on the planet. If birth was so awful, there'd be a lot less of us! You can do it!!

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I'm not a BTDT mom, so I can't give you any real words of wisdom, but when I get scared thinking about the birth, I just try to think about all the gazillions of women who gave birth before me. They didn't know what to expect or what they were doing. I think your primal/maternal nature will just take over and you'll be fine.

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I just had this conversation with my friend. She had natural childbirth, no epi, and said its not that bad. Ok, but I'm still opting for an epi, the least amount of pain I can have the better! I try not to even think about it and I am almost afraid to go to a lamaze class b/c I dont want to hear about any of it. I just pray that he comes as quickly as possible!

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
Don't be scared. I was so nervous and scared at the same time before I give birth. The only hard part was when I was home feeling each and every contractions. As soon as I went to hospital, I was fine after I received the epidural. The epidural was well worth it. I didn't want to be in pain After you give birth, you'll see it was well worth it !

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I completely understand, I am terrified too.. but I realize I have to just go with the flow.. what else can I do at this point?! Everytime I get nervous I think about finally meeting my little boy and I feel so happy I could cry.

Re: Getting Scared...Please Help!
I went through 34.5 hours of labor (not trying to scare you ) lol and ended with a c-section. I was totally unprepared for a section and thought I was going vaginally all along. Nature had something else in mind....I was wheeled in and out of surgery and thought WOW that was awesome! No screaming, pushing, tearing, bleeding (that I could see at least) lol
Moral: C-sections are AWESOME and there is NOTHING to worry about!!!
Lots of luck : )
