Random Annoucement: 25mo and still rear facing

her legs are bent but she's comfy and sleeps back there.

Hubby has joined the "Turn her around" gang but I told him I'd revisit the issue if she hits 30lbs or 35inchs tall. Of which, neither can we measure at home ;) Otherwise I think I'm going to try to make it to Halloween or Thanksgiving.

Yes its a bit of a pain to put her in.

She's forward facing in my aunt's car

*shrug*

What's another month or two, right?

Wow, that long. Ds would be freaking out if he was still rear facing.

So awesome!!!!

Have you asked her which she prefers, since she sits FF and RF?

Many older kids who are verbal have stated they're actually more comfy rear facing because their legs fall asleep FF.

DD is still RF at 32 months, with a goal of 4 yrs. She's not complaining, I'm not switching her LOL.

never thought to ask her

#1 she's not that verbal but yes she knows what she does and doesnt want.

#2 its like asking her if she wants to have Salmon and Asaragus for dinner or if she wants cake for dessert. She has no concept of the alternate choice. She just knows in her aunt's car she sits forward but in ours she does not. Its just that simple.

32mo!!! WOW!! I know I won't last that long. End of year is tops for me. I want to be able to see her without sitting back there! haha (no, there are no mirrors that work for us, she's center seated without any head rests back there)

Re: Random Annoucement: 25mo and still rear facing

DD is almost 20 months and had to be turned in DH and my mom's car because she was over the height limit on the seats.

She was still rear facing in mine until last week. She was FREAKING out in my car because of the rear facing.

She is verbal and would scream and cry the whole time "Mommmy, hold you hold you, sit with youuuuu, sit with youuuu, pleeeeeassseee out out dowwwnnnn" (she means hold me and sit with me) but you get the idea....it was NOT fun.

I couldnt take it anymore and had DH switch her.

Congrats on keeping her that way for so long.....I wish I was able to wait till she was 2, but she didnt understand why it was different in my car.

DD is 22 mths and still rear facing. She has zero issues with it. I was just wondering today when MUST she turn forward facing?

With you on this!

she has to face forward when she hits either the height or weight limit of the seat.

My DC are 21 months and still rear facing. They won't reach the weight limit for a LONG time.

Re: Random Annoucement: 25mo and still rear facing

That IS awesome! DD#1 was rear-facing until she was 19 months...I regretted switching her when I did.

I plan on keeping DD#2 rear-facing longer than that, hopefully until she's at least 2!

Rear facing seats are outgrown when one of the following happens

- exceeds the stated weight limit on the seat

or

-has 1" or less of shell above her head

Stated weights are absolute, heights are not since children's bodies grow at different rates (some kids are more leggy than others and may fit longer in a seat than a longer torso child of the same height)

Bent legs are not a reason to switch them to FF, there has never been a case of broken legs from a rear facing child in a collision.

As to when you HAVE to switch her? Well, so long as she fits appropriately in a RF seat, then never LOL. Ideally, you want to get to 2, and if she'll let you go longer that's better.

Xelindrya, we don't use a mirror anymore. It was tough at first to get used to, but considering she is always yapping I know she's OK back there Chat Icon
