Stomach virus when pregnant
I am 30 weeks pregnant and have a horrible stomach virus that started last night. I couldn't sleep all night the pain was so unbearable. Has anyone had a virus while pregnant? Doctor didn't really have anything to say besides if the baby is moving normally there is nothing to do except rest and try to keep as much fluids down. When I am lying down I feel better as soon as I stand I get this horrible burning pain in my stomach Anyone go through something similar? Any other suggestions? I hope this doesn't last more than a day

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
I got food poisoning when I was 36 weeks pregnant. It was horrible and I felt so disgusting! I called my dr b/c I was throwing up so much and he said I could come to hospital to get hooked up to IV to keep hydrated, but I decided to ride it out at home. After a day or so I was able to keep liquids down and I felt better. Hope you feel better soon!!

Thank you I am still feeling very ill. Did anyone experience a severe burning pain for about 10 second intervals? It is horrible, almost as bad as contractions

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
I worked at a daycare when I was pregnant with DS and at 32 weeks after getting over pneumonia I got a stomach bug. It lasted exactly 24 hours and my midwives told me to not have any liquids or anything for 6 hours and it helped! I hope you feel better.

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
I know your pain! I am 24 weeks pregnant and I have had a BAD stomach virus since MONDAY! I went to Winthrop yesterday to get some iv fluids into me bc i knew i was really dehydrated. This also happened to me with my daughter when I was 8 months pregnant, and the same thing...I had to go in and get some fluids back in me. Just try as hard as you can to drink...either Pedialyte or Vitamin Water. and stick to the BRAT diet:
Banana Rice Apple sauce Toast

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
Just try to rest and take it as easy as possible...and stay hydrated!
When I was 9 weeks preggo I had a horrible stomach virus. I could not keep anything down. I ended up passing out on the way to the bathroom, hit my head on the bathroom floor, had a seizure, and ended up in the ER for an IV. Next time I'll get teh IV BEFORE I pass out.
Be careful!!!!!
But my midwife said everything for Baby would be fine. So don't worry about Baby too much, as long as he or she is moving.

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
I had a bad stomach bug at around 20 weeks prego. Throwing up non stop and horrible stomach pains. I called my DR and he said to just try and stay hydrated and that it will pass. They didn't seem worried at all. I think you are having the burning bc the baby is big and prob pushing on your belly as its spasming from the virus. If you don't feel better soon, go to get IV fluids and get checked out to make sure you didn't get food poisoning like E coli which can be deadly. These viruses should pass within a few days. Hope you feel better soon!!

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
Thankfully it only lasted 24 hours and I am feeling MUCH better today. I still have that bad burning sensation unless I am lying on my left side but it is much better than yesterday. Thanks again ladies!

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
One last question-does anyone have any idea how long after you're feeling better a stomach virus is contagious for? I am feeling better today and one of my best friend's weddings is today I am just torn on what to do. My biggest concern is getting anyone else sick. I hate when people come to event's and say "don't come to close I'm sick, or I am just getting over being sick" I always feel like why are you here then?!? Wwyd?

Re: Stomach virus when pregnant
I'm sorry to say but a stomach virus is usually contagious for at least 72 hours after symptoms have subsided.
