PCOS and OPKs

When the heck are you supposed to use OPKs if your cycles are long and unpredictable? Do you keep randomly checking, or check everyday after a certain point? I've never used OPKs but I want to this cycle to make sure I'm ovulating and not just getting rid of the build up, but I have no idea when the heck that could be. TIA.

I highly recommend charting, when you have pcos. You definitely could be ovulating but just very late in your cycle.

When your cycles are long opks can get costly. Also with pcos you can get a lot of false positives. You may want to purchase the opks through the internet because you can get them cheaper. However, I would start with them around cd 10.

I feel your pain! I've become so broke because of this (these opks are so expensive) I just recently started to use these. Are you seeing an RE? if so the RE can do an ultra sound and see if anything is about to occur. If you don't see an RE then I would typically wait until a week after you had AF.

No, I'm not seeing and RE yet. Both my NP and OBGYN have previously worked for infertility specialists, so I'm gonna stay with it there at first because they seem to be on top of everything based upon everything I've read and all the info from you guys. I have been charting and my temp did go up, so I thought I ovulated. The doc said charting is good, but he doesn't like to put his stock in it cause so many things can throw off a temp, so he suggested I use the OPKs with charting for more accuracy. I was just thinking I've read they're expensive and with no clear idea when I'm ovulating...

Where do you guys order you OPKs off the internet from?

I use the fertility monitor but here is a website that sells some opks and hpts. You may be able to find them less expensive if you search the web. You can also find opks and hpts at the dollar tree...many times.

Definitely use charting AND OPKS...remember the opks predict O and the charting confirms it.

I feel your pain. I have PCOS and had the same problem. I used Answer. I know some people on here didn't recommend them but they are the only ones that seemed to work for me. Probably because there are 20 strips in the kit and since my cycle is so long I found them to be "economical" also. The last 2 months were the first time I tested positive. Of course the first month I got my positive on the last strip and this month I got a positive for a few days.
I know the inserts for all of these say may not be accurate for people with PCOS but I still try, plus I also chart. Now I'm in the 2ww so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.
