try joining freecycle.org, there is a local group for LI.
People there always give away unused/outgrown baby supplies

There's an AWESOME thrift store on Middle Country Rd in Centereach (it's on the north side of the road heading toward the Smithaven Mall). My mom gets a ton of toys there for DD and I got a highchair for $4. Try there! You could also ask your local Babies R Us what they did with all of the traded-in car seats that were turned in that event they had recently. I was told that they were donating them so maybe they can tell you about a local organization.
