need major help....

i am at my wits end with my puppy. We have two....one is 5 mnths all he wants to do is play which i understand and we do play alot...the problem is my hubsand is up at 5 am to go to work and the puppies wake up to go out etc and think its playtime all morning. I am preggo i cant be up at 5 am with dogs and they have been waking my daughter at 6 when she sleeps till 8-830 needless to say its been VERY stressful here. Any ideas on what to do?

How much training, discipline and structured exercise (walks, not letting them out) do you give them daily?

That's usually the place to start, with any kind of discipline problem. Find a way for you and your husband to increase these things and you're going to have an easier time.

At five months though, you will need to be consistent and patient because they're like babies who are depending on you to teach them how to act.

I see you're looking for a trainer, that's a great. You don't have any replies yet but there are lots of threads on trainers if you do a search in the Pets board, to read what others have written about them.

As for after mealtimes, I crate one of my dogs for one hour after eating so they can digest calmly. It's for medical reasons, but you could do the same. I find when they're separated like that, they tend to entertain themselves or nap. But mine are both 3 years old.

I second what greenfreak said about exercise. But I also remember when one of my puppies was like that... it does pass as they get older. They won't always be up ready to play at the crack of dawn, so it may be a matter of waiting it out

Totally agree! My dog was off the wall crazy when he was a puppy. I mean INSANE! Now he's three and he's the most laid back dog you've ever met. He'll still get excited and jump around and play when the time is right, but he's not crazy hyper like he used to be.

I also noticed a huge change in his energy after we had him neutered. That's something to consider as well!

thank you everyone for your replies...we play with him alot and take him for atleast 2 long walks a day. he just wants constant attention he thinks hes a big baby...i know it will pass but im sleep deprived and dont know how much more i can take im going to tell my husband he has to take him for a longgg walk before work in the morning and see how that goes

defintely have your husband take for a long walk before he leaves for work will help you

another idea is to move the crate to a place that will not disturb the dog - a friend put the crate in the finished basement because the husband left at 5 - this way the dog slept till 7 when every one else woke up - so either the garage , dining room, living room

There are medical reasons for waiting to neuter, we waited over a year. For Labs, there are studies that they need the chemicals produced before they're neutered that aids in the formation of joints as they are growing. So ask your vet about that, as a consideration, since many dogs take over a year to finish growing.
