Need a good ENT for a second opinion- also would like some advice
DS is almost 7 months old and has had an ear infection for 1 1/2 months now. We tried 3 diff. antibiotics and nothing worked. I took him to Dr. Shangold the other day and he said that it isnt infected anymore but there is fluid in both ears. He also showed some hearing loss but he said it was b/c of the fluid. I told him that DS had reflux up until 3 months ago and it has pretty much disappeared. His advice to me was to put DS on reflux medicine to see if the fluid goes away. I really dont want to do this bc he barely throws up anymore so I dont see how the reflux could be causing the fluid. Also- we tried reflux meds early on and DS was horrible with it. He refused to eat, ect. We just put oatmeal in his bottle now which seems to work. His only other option was to do tubes later on. I feel that I need a second opinion b/c he really didnt want to hear that his reflux was gone- he just keep saying that the reflux meds would be the answer. Any advice on who to see or what to do? I really dont want to go back to that office and would like to see somebody in a new practice. I live in suffolk county.

Re: Need a good ENT for a second opinion- also would like some advice
My son got tubes when he was 10 mos and we have had no issues since. He had 8 ear infections back to back. I wish I knew then that there are some great things done with chiropractors for babies with ear infections. Maybe try that route? I can't answer about the reflux because he didnt have that

Re: Need a good ENT for a second opinion- also would like some advice
We go to Dr. Campbell-I believe the practice is called Suffolk ENT. He is amazing!!!! He had my son on a nose spray for a while which helped. My son failed his hearing tests too and it slowly got better. We were scheduled to put tubes in his ears this past summer b/c he had 8 ear infections in less than 6 months. When we went for the pre-op Dr. Campbell said the fluid was gone, his hearing was back to normal in one ear and close to normal in the other ear so he told us to hold off on the surgery. He is very easy to talk to, AMAZING with my son and very thorough. He has us coming back every 2 months or so since we cancelled the surgery just to make sure we are on the right track. I would highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Dr Richard Littman, he has done two separate surgeries on my DS. He is very efficient and so great with small children. His bedside manner is excellent. I can not say enough great things about him!! He has two locations one in Port Jeff and one in Patchogue. (631) 928-0188
Good Luck

I really like Dr Cornetta in Huntington. My DD had tubes at 13 mos after 7 infections in past 5 months.

Re: Need a good ENT for a second opinion- also would like some advice
We go to Dr. Youngerman in Plainview. We live in Suffolk but we do the drive because, in our opinion, he's that good. We did see a Ped ENT in Smithtown and were not happy with the practice at all.
DS got his first ear infection October of last year and it was on and off every two weeks for 3 months. He had ear tubes put in in January of this year and it's been a complete night and day difference. It turned out the ear infection he had, whatever the bacteria was, was not going to respond to any oral or injected antibiotics. We now use Ciprodex drops if he does get an ear infection, which has only happened twice since January.
I'm sorry your little one is going through this.

Re: Need a good ENT for a second opinion- also would like some advice
I don't have any experience with ear infections, but I have a lot with reflux and reflux can definitely cause severe congestion, which would lead to fluid buildup in the ears. A lot of reflux symptoms are not really very obvious though some are - my DD had a lot of subtle symptoms and eventually started showing more obvious symptoms and all of them went away when we finally figured out the right reflux med for her. Good luck!

Re: Need a good ENT for a second opinion- also would like some advice
I saw someone else realy that they go to Dr. Littman, we go to Dr. John Sugrue in the same practice. He is fantastic!!! My DS had ear infections every 3 weeks since he was 7 months old. Finally after seeing Dr. Sugrue we got tubes in at 1 1/2. They came out two years later....unfortunately, they needed to go back in, but he has been ear infection free, and hopefully, this will be the last round. About his acid reflux . My DS has had stomach/throwing up issues since he was born. He would vomit after he would eat and it would be so frequent, he, at 3 was below the growth chart he was so skinny. I have cried for so long, I was so worried about him. Then the doctor suggested to have his tonsils and his adeniods removed. He had them out in March and has thrown up maybe 3 times since! At 5 years old, he is now in the 40% for his weight! He eats so much more and even tries new things. Dr. Sugrue said his tonsils were blocking 60% of his throat and his adenoids blocking 85% of his airway. Just a suggestion. Dr. Sugrue 928-0188 Pt. Jeff/ Patchogue Good luck!! Our reg ped is in Miller Place and she is wonderful (our 3rd and last) ped!!! Dr. Masakayan 209-2827

i agree. . . he put tubes in for my DD when she was 12 months old. she had chronic ear infections after she had pneumonia at 7 months. they were non-stop and she was constantly on antibiotics. she hasn't been sick since she had the tubes in.
