I Wish I Knew...

Hello Mommys and Mommys-To-Be!

My fiance and I started talking about when we would like to have children and decided that within the next few years would be ideal... We're trying hard to stay away from Honeymoon Babies but you never know Chat Icon

I was just wondering though... Are there any things that you wish you knew before you got pregnant, certain things you should have done or are planning to do with your second baby?

I'd love to learn from everyone's experiences so please share!!

Re: I Wish I Knew...

my only advice is if you are on bcp get off as soon as possible because it will mess with your cycle soo much after getting off! the sooner the better, and the longer you will have to regulate, and understand your cycles before trying

I actually stopped taking birth control about two and a half years ago because all the "side effects" were happening to me Chat Icon They wanted to put me on the Mini-Pill (Progesterone only) but I opted against that.

Good to know though!! Thanks so much for the feedback Chat Icon

Re: I Wish I Knew...

My husband and I waited 6 years after our wedding to try to get pregnant. In that time we really, truly enjoyed each other, traveled a lot, went on dates and just had a blast. It was the best thing in the world. It has bonded us and we are a stronger unit b/c of it. Also we will never have any regrets about not being able to ship off to Paris b/c we have kids. Of course we can bring them on the next trip but it won't be the same and it won't be as cheap. :)

I think often times I see my friends rush into having kids before they've totally solidified their marriage. I am so glad we waited.

Best of luck!

I love Cant waits advice. I am NOT pregnant, but will be TTC soon. My husband and I ahve been married for about 2 years. We decided to wait because we wanted to make sure to solidify our relationship. We also wanted time as a married couple to do things. Go away on whim, drop everything and go to a movie. Sleep in, or go skiing.

We are better for the alone time we have had.

Re: I Wish I Knew...

Im not really any help. Me and my Dh have only been married a little over a year. We didnt wait long. I wish we could have done more things before hand but I dont regret getting pregnant. Ive wanted children for as long as I can remember. We are both in our 30's also so I wanted them sooner then later. If i had been married younger then maybe It would be different but as life goes we werent. So good luck with whatever decision you make and never regret!

Re: I Wish I Knew...

I would say it's really easy to get bogged down on the details of TTC (temping, OPKs, etc.), and stress yourselves out. Just have FUN at first and maybe add in temping the next month and OPK the month after that. It's so easy to get stressed out if things don't go as planned, so try to relax the process as much as possible in the beginning Chat Icon.

I wish I knew being a mom would be so wonderful, I wouldn't have waited so long. DH agrees.

Try to make TTC fun and not stressful. I think I know when I conceived and it is an awesome memory!

Re: I Wish I Knew...

I wish I knew how much I don't need to be a control freak about making sure the time was "perfect" to have a kid. Or to be "ready" for it and what not.

Because since it came as a pleasant surprise - DH and I have realized how much we want this and how great it feels.

At the same time I am glad that we had time for just us the past few years. We traveled and enjoying being married and I'm glad for that for sure as well.

Re: I Wish I Knew...

I would say to just have fun and to not be crazy with all of the things you read at first. I know people who after they stopped trying they got pregnant because of all the extra stress you can put on yourself. Also know it can take a month or a long time everyone is different.

Re: I Wish I Knew...

I wouldn't go nuts in the beginning.

Our plan was to just have fun with trying (unless after a few months nothing was happening). I got pregnant right away (first month of bcps) and I am still in a state of shock and I am hoping and praying like crazy that it sticks Chat Icon Chat Icon but my advice would be to give it a few months before you get into the charting, temping, opks etc. and try to have fun with it. Just winging it like we did made me get anxious - I can't imagine how much more anxious I'd feel if I was doing all of the other stuff.

I agree! My advice is really just relax and enjoy each other as a married couple because its true when they say life changes when you have a kid. Your priorites change, your wants and desires change etc. Its a great experience and I wouldnt give up my DS for anything in the world, but I am glad we had 3 married years before he came into our lives.

Also as far as TTC, I am going to go against the grain and say just ENJOY IT! Give it time, dont stress and just enjoy the "practice". As one of my friends drs once said "Just get some Billy Joel and a bottle of wine and have some fun!"

GL!
