School districts
We are considering moving back to li after 3 years in nc. Most of the houses in our budget are in sachem, pat med, and comsuogue( I know I butchered that). What can you tell me about these districts?
Also, we will have the same income in ny as we do here. We would need to move into a smaller home, and while money wouldn't be tight, we would need to wrangle our spending. The upside is we would be near family, in nc we have no family. Would you move back?

Re: School districts
If you have read any of my posts I was in the same situation.
We have a house in SC moved down there with Family. MIL/FIL wanted to come back to NY - we followed back.
I am miserable. I wish we stayed there. I know its nice to have family around but life was really good for us there.
Here my job market is tougher and the house we have is very expensive and needs a lot of work.
We are actually wanting to move back to SC if my DH can get a job there making the money he is looking for.
Can you do a temporary move to make sure that is what you want? Maybe a longer vacation? Our decision came kind of quickly (within a few weeks) and I wish we thought about leaving SC a little longer.

Re: School districts
IMO - I would look in sachem first, then comsewogue then pat-med.
prices are a lot better now than 3 yrs ago - there are homes in those districts under $300K.
Good luck!

Re: School districts
We lived in the Sachem district for a while...DH actually grew up in it and some of his nieces and nephews are part of Sachem. It's a large district but I've only heard good things. I've also heard good things about Comswogue...don't know much about Pat-Med.

Re: School districts
For me, being close to family is more important than having a large house/property. I don't know your specifics, but for me, I'd move closer to my family if the only negative was a smaller house.
I'm a teacher, but in Nassau, and I don't know much about the districts you mentioned. I know their reputations, though, and know some colleagues with kids in Pat-Med and in Sachem. Between those two, I'd look in Sachem.

Re: School districts
Pat-Med had 2 bomb threats last week, on the same day, and a fire alarm pulled, on the same day.
For that and other reasons, you are much better off in Sachem, then Comsewogue, in my opinion.

Re: School districts
of those districts ITA that sachem is the best bet.
as far as moving back, we have often though of leaving LI for a better situation but we stay for family. it;'s worth it to us. and when vacation time comes around, i'd rather go somewhere on VACATION rather than constantly come home for holidays...weddings...visits, etc..
