Did anyone read in the newspaper about school districts being audited by the FBI?
My father was just telling me about this b/c there are people collecting pensions and medical benefits that shouldnt be. He said Merrick, where we live, is one of them.

an attorney working for 5 school districts was listed as a full-time employee by all of them, so he was receiving medical benefits and is eligible for a pension because of it.
I think what's most upsetting is how long it took someone to figure this out. I can't believe the pension system didn't pick up on it years ago.

I just read the article about it in Newsday. Unbelievable. We live in Merrick which is one of the areas affected. Maybe they'll figure out there is a scam going on and our taxes will go down a little for god sake.

Newsday covered the story on Thursday or Friday and this weekend's headlines stated that the federal govt was investigating now.
Nice to see that LI school dstricts are watching where resident tax money is going!

Maybe it's time the gov't and higher ups got involved since it has spiraled so out of control and for reasons just like this. I am sure this will not be the only case.

Well something needs to be done, esp when 75% or so of our property taxes are going to SDs!!!!

yes and its disgusting! my parents district baldwin is one as is east meadow (who couldnt' give their teachers a contract for over 3 yers, but can pay this guy?) Bellmore Merrick HS distrcit, Harborfields and I foget te other one.

Its disgusting. The flat out abuse & waste of our tax dollars & the number of highly paid "officials" that knew this crap went on is unforgivable.
Its time for an independent committee to be formed to audit every district on LI & look up their arses with a microscope to find all the money they are wasting and/or stealing from us!!!!

for once newsday is doing something positive for the schools. this kind of nonsense SHOULD NOT happen.
there is so much waste in school districts--i see it first hand every day...but all people talk about is teacher salaries
