new at this and I have a few questions

on your cover letter, how do you state what your salary requirements are without coming off rude?
also do you include that you do not need health insurance benefits?

my current cover letter just says my current salary is $x but I think that's not the right way to do it

Also- I have only worked 2 jobs in my current field but its a total of 13 years. 10 at one place and the last 3 at this job. most of my advanced training and skills came in at this job. My current employer has no idea I am looking to leave. when they ask for references how do I handle this? I think they will want to check up on my current skills and I can't have them call my office. (I am the highest employee under the owner and the company is small so there isn't anyone else to speak with per say)

Thanks for any help you can give Chat Icon

Re: new at this and I have a few questions

Did you look up sample cover letters with salary?

Also, did the job description specifically say to include salary requirements in the cover letter? If they don't say it, I don't include it.

Keep it brief.."I require an annual salary in the range of xx-xx."

I wouldn't mention the benefits now, wait for the interview.

The reference part is difficult, but I think the hiring employer would be understanding. Again, wait for the interview or until it gets to that point.

Do you have colleagues that either are still there or left? What about collegues from other companies that you have to work with regularly?

both offices were small, this one I do have collegues that work here but the office is small so the phone call would have to be after hours. at that point I think it would sound odd that they have to call them say on their cell or something.

Most of the jobs I respond to do say must include salary requirments in cover letter to be considered. otherwise, I do leave it off.

I did download a few in ms office, and none of them had a line about salary

Re: new at this and I have a few questions

I usually say something like "My required salary is in the $$-$$ range, however is negotiable based on the entire compensation and benefits package."

This way I won't price myself out of a job if it happens to have unbelieveable benefits.
