"dirt" smell in bathroom - cesspool related possibilty?

can a cesspool cause a "dirt" smell in a bathroom (around toilet area)? not a smell like crap....just smells like dirt or wet dirt

can a lack of flushing if the toilet if it isnt being used often (in home that has a cesspool) cause this smell? anyone ever hear of this or smell this?

This happened in my apartment recently. A tree root grew into the pipes and was causing dirt to come out of the bottom. I needed some type of ring on the bottom to prevent the water for coming out, and I'm not sure if they are addressing the root problem.

But it was def dirt coming out with water and smelt like soil.
