LOVED it. I read it before all the controversy, while it was still "real", and I couldnt wait to get up in the morning to continue reading it. I also loved My Friend Leonard and Bright Shiny Morning... highly recommend them if you liked AMLP.

I loved it when it was supposed to be real, but after it came out that he made it up, it kinda put a bad taste in my mouth. He should have just marketed it as fiction in the first place. Now, I can never think of that book the same way.

I was in the middle of reading it when it came out it wasn't all true. I still enjoyed it though.

I agree. I don't mind that it is fiction. I would have read it market as a biography or fiction.
My Friend Leonard was great too!

If you read up on his story, he actually did try to market it as fiction - for years. The publishing company that signed him suggested it be marketed as a memoir, then Oprah picked it up, etc. etc.
I kind of feel bad for the guy in that he was being turned away because of a different writing style and then he got bashed for something that wasn't entirely his idea.
Anyway, loved the book and just thought I'd throw that out there for people.
