I had the same surgury when I was in grad school. I had heartburn for at least 10 years before anybody suggested the surgury. I had precancerous cells on my esophogus from the acid. The recovery is tough in the beginning from what I remember but it is totally worth it! Your DH will have a much better quality of life...he will be so much more comfortable.
